Very tuf to beat a team 3 times in one year. We will see if the Pack can get the wild card. Or maybe the Vikings will lose the rest of their games.

36 on Big D now!!

Actually, the odds of beating a team if you've beaten them twice during the year is nearly 90%. Plus, the pack won't make the wildcard...

Thanks for keeping us updated on the water temps, Brian.

Changed the thread to ice reports, please post what you see on the icing up of our lakes, it shouldn't be long now.

Heard that Lake 15 closed up last night from somebody that lives on that lake. Also heard Silver did too but have not checked that yet.

Deadshot Bay and Little Detroit were locked up this afternoon. If the wind lays down, some larger lakes should go as well. Anyone see if Lind, Cottage, or Sauer are iced over?

Little D is closed up as far as I could tell when I drove past it this morning!!! Blue water bay on Big C is closed up right now, but the main lake is still open.

Better report

Took off this morning at 8 to check out lakes, just me and my son so I didn't get to go too far out with out wimping out.

Tulaby lake, just froze last night, walked out about 2 steps and it cracked and I jumped back to shore.

Elbow still has open water out in front of the village.

Some smaller lakes out in the hills were good though. The first one I checked I made it out about 30 yards and got 3 inches. The second one(see image my 6 year old took) I made it out to 12 feet of water. Could have fished if I had my gear. It was also about 3 inches. Could have made it farther out but I didn't want to go out with out another adult. Looking foward to fishing tomorrow after another cold night!!!!!

Went for a little drive this afternoon. Lakes with lids on them were Meadow, Sauer, Franklin, Lida, Crystal, South Lida, Anderson, Little Pelican, Heilberger, Spirit, and West Silent. East Silent and Star had open water. There were three guys heading out on one of the back areas of Star. Hopefully, they will be a part of a fishing report and not the Sherrif's report.

Sometime this week we'll have to get out for sure. An afternoon trip. I'm heading out to that little lake with my brother this evening, the one I mentioned the other night. Just going to go to say we went, really don't care what I catch!

lows the next 5 days are 1, -1, -2, -3, 2.

What do you project the ice depth for some of the smaller lakes by Saturday?

6 inches MeltedDon... that's my guess, but I also guessed the Vikings would win!!

Use caution though, the lake I fished literally was like 150 yards across and 300 yards wide. It was tiny. But I'd be willing to bet that most smaller lakes would be fishable next weekend. I'll be out hopping around for sure next weekend checking things out. Fisherdog19 and I will be checking a lake or two this Thursday also so we'll be able to give another report on the ice situation.

Leif is frozen over we had someone out from the house walking on the ice today, but only 30 or 40 feet out. I would wait for this weekend to head out and fish. By the narrows I assume your talking about the "no wake zone". I saw a popup on Little Detroit today out a couple hundred yards from the beach. Dont use my report to base your safety on the ice, use your best judgement. I couldnt imagine someone was that hungry to risk hypothermia. If you want to fish Leif with someone hit me up [email protected].

Leif had 1.5 inches on Friday and 4 inches on Monday at Noon.

I think almost every leake will have "fishable" ice by this weekend, but NOT all over the lake.

Example -- the North access on Big C may have 6-7 inches by Saturday, but if you cruise across the lake you will be at the bottom. Use your head.

The West side of Pelican will have about 7 inches by Friday morning.

The weather report I saw had lows -2, -5 -5 -9 -14 -19 with highs no better than 10 -- that is ICE WEATHER, baby!

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
