Coming up to Low june 12th. Staying at Zippel Bay. Where would a good place to get maps of Low?

Walmart. Hot Spots map.

I agree the hotspot maps are good. I recently put a post out "stay inside the buoys" that was talking about going out from zippel. water levels are low so some of the depths that are marked on the maps wont be true in reality. take the first run out past the lighthouse slow so you can watch your depth finder and get a good idea of whats there. good luck fishing. Do these maps also detail the Canadian side of the lake or just the U.S. side? I'll be staying at a Canadian resort here in a week and would also like to get one.

mrwalleyee,<P>I would recommend the Canadian nautical charts. They can be purchased in Canada for a comparable price to the hot spot maps. Just recently, while cruising along following a hotspots map, I looked up and something didn't look right. A seagul was standing "on" the water, on second glance with really big eyes, it was standing on a rock under the water 2". I avoided a near hit (still have never touched a rock in 20 years up there) But at a closer look at my hotspots map, it just simply didn't draw much attention to this reef. Maybe it is because I'm not used to them. I grew up on the CDN nautical charts, and have never known them to be off by more than a hair. A second plug for the CDN nautical charts is for the fact that they have implemented a new buoy system that I am unfamiliar with, as are other locals/Canadians. Black/yellow/black buoys, weird. New charts have the changes on them. Long winded, but had to voice my opinion and possibly save someone else from "seagull reef".<P>------------------<BR>Hemlock<BR>"Throw'm back"

I would have to second the Canadian Nautical Maps. I have never had a problem navicating with them. The Hot Spot maps are not as detailed and cover a larger area so the scale is larger. Figure the lake is three feet lower than what the Candian Nautical Maps show. Haven't purchased the new map with the new bouys but plan on it. Talked to the crew setting the bouys last weekend at the Government Dock in Morson and they are working quickly to get them all in.

marknamy, I will be fishing out of Duck Bay lodge near Morson. How has the fishing been in the area? Any hints would be appreciated. Thanks for the help on the maps, I have never heard of them before.

You can pick up maps at the Shopping Centre in Morson when you go through. I wasn't up last weekend, but it sounded like it was slower than Memorial weekend. I would imagine the eyes will start working their way off spawning grounds soon. I would start in sand/gravel/rubble bays and work my way out to the points and drop offs to 14-20'. Spinners and jigs have both been producing for eyes. Smallies should still be pretty good. Good luck and look forward to hearing the report when you get back.

Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter.   Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th.  I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th.  Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt.   Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
