He isn't expected to be brought up to the bigs, he was brought in in case of and emergency to the infield.

I thought for sure we would have signed or traded for some of the players that the other Teams in the league have signed....Like......

Then again we're just an average Team/Franchise that has won 6 of 7 series with the lone loss to the Yankees and have had the best record in the division 5 of the last 7 years!

....if he can play at his career avg. he's a cheaper version of sanchez and he will be an upgrade at 2b over others that have tried playing that position this year. let's hope for the best.

....we've been down this road before about the teams success the last few years. they have been exciting to watch but let's not forget what division they are playing in and their lack of success against the better teams in the AL plus their .286 winning percentage in playoff games since 2002. I think it's very safe to assume that if they were in the east they very well may have zero playoff appearances since 1991 and if they played in the west, who knows but it's doubtful they'd have as many playoff appearances as they've experienced since 2002.

...believe it or not, there are fans out there that would like more than just contending for a division title. call us greedy but we wouldn't mind a little success in those playoff games if they get there. I know playoff games can sometimes interfere with hunting and watching TJ light up the field in Vikes games but...

What about Adam Kennedy?? He is a Vet on a team going nowhere and has a good glove and good stick. I would think the Twins could get him for little to nothing. I like his approach at the plate and he has some speed - I just think he would be a good fit in the two hole. The only downside I see is he's a lefthanded hitter. When a lefty throws we could bat Harris in the two hole and Kennedy down in the order to break up all the lefties.

Plus the Athletics love guys that have a good eye at the plate and have some pop and they need a third baseman -Goodbye Brian Buscher!

how about gomez and either span or young for Holliday, swap with the As, you're getting a proven outfielder, and from what the broadcasters say the As are looking to deal him.

Seriously???? The Twins will NOT trade either Gomez or Span anytime soon. Who'd want Young?

ha i knew i'd get a reaction, my thoughts were to get rid of some of the under average players and pick up a more proven guy. we'd ahve a solid outfield, with better bats than we currently do.

this is besides the fact that we need middle infield, and a bullpen. keep matty and nathan, and maybe dickey and start over.

i think holliday is a pretty good player, but coors field turns out some pretty good hitters.

Well Holliday was traded to the Cardinals last night for there top hitting prospect and 2 other players. Although he wouldn't have filled a position of need in the field, I would have loved to see hit bat in the lineup.

Mauer and Morneau are not too pleased with the front office right now. They want some help brought in, but don't think it will happen.

From the Trib:

"Yeah, there's frustration," Mauer said, "but I've learned over the last few years not to try to get my hopes up that we'll have something, then get disappointed.''

"It's frustrating, very frustrating,'' Morneau said. "You hear about the future, the future. I don't know who gets to decide when that is or when they think that is...

I have to agree with Morneau. The front office has been talking about the future for the last 10+ years. The noise about giving up prospects is getting old.

The non action of our front office costed us Santana. Hasn't worked out for him in NY, but injuries are playing a huge role there. Mauer will be a twin forever, but not the Canadian.

Theres no parody in baseball the Twins have a snowballs chance of ever winning the world series with teams like the Yankees and Sox in the league

Cliff Lee just got traded for a bunch of minor leaguers -- You would think the Twins would have looked at that with the loss of Slowey.

I think I have said it on here before, but if I haven't, I will now- I think Cliff Lees 2008 was a fluke. He had spent most of his career being shipped to the minors up until last year, and I think the stars aligned just right that he had a great year. He has gotten smoked quite a few times this season.

Bill Smith said in the ST. Paul paper today, that the only excess we have are outfielders and catchers, and nobody is looking for those type players.

It was interesting in Shooters column that Gardy told his players, that if they wanted to be GMs, they could leave the game and take that position and see how easy it is to make trades.

Mauer will be a twin forever, but not the Canadian.

Joe has said that the days of the "hometown discount" are over.

The Twins have said when the got a stadium they would start spending money to keep and get players.

I say... whistleRIGHT mad The twins will sell out the first and second year of the stadium. They will pocket the money just like Bud did over in wisconsin. Then sell off, trade off, let go anyone with a big contract and start over.

I would like to be proved wrong, but Nathan, Mauer, and Morneau will not sign new contracts with this team. They can get MUCH more money someplace else. The Yankee's are just using "place holders" behind the plate, wonder who they are waiting for? confused They already know they can outbid the twins for him.

Like it or not, this is what we got, this is what we are. A .500 team with a handfull of guys who can play, a bunch of below average pitchers, a never ending list of broken down "could've/should've been's" who come in as bottom rung free agents (or as the twins call them, 3rd basemen), and fill out the team with guys who would strugle to be on many AAA teams.

They wont get rid of GO GO GOaway because they dont want to admit they got NOTHING for santana. They are to cheap to get middle infield help, and the leage has been laughing about the young trade since it went down.

I can see Mauer and Justin leaving. They want to be on a team that has a good chance at a ring before their prime time playing is gone or going downhill.

They will also get paid much more elsewhere. I would be very suprised if the Twins can keep them like they did Kirby.

I do agree whole heartedly with Gardy's GM comment above.

I'm hoping once the New stadium ACTUALLY opens "LOL" that we only slightly tweak our premier business model in ALL of professional sports and add select players here and there.

Of course this is just my redundant opinion ... grin

And if Mauer wants to make more CASH elsewhere go for it Joe it's your call!

This team will be awfully boring without Mauer and Morneau. I know I would lose some interest.

Yes, if they let those two go, which more than likely they will as the Twins don't seem to want to field a true contending championship team, they won't be near as good.

Smart money says they will be gone if we look at the history of the Twins and how they pay.

Hats off to the Philadelphia Phillies. Defending world champs going out and making a great team even better. Wish we had ownership and a GM like that. I see them being a WS contender for years to come, that is what the Twins should model themselves after.

Oh and good luck to the Yankee's winning the world series this year.

Yankee's Worlds series Wins in the last 9 years...ZERO.

Central division World series titles in the last 4 years ONE.

Yankee's World Series participants in the last 8 years.. ONE

Central divisions World series participants in the last 4 years TWO.

Go Yankee's maybe you can buy it this year. I'll take baseball the way it was meant to played any day of the week over this $250,000,000 a year payroll non-sense any day and sunday!

Go Yanks..LOL

Pier, that does not excuse the Twins for doing nothing.

I love to watch the Twins and cheer for them but it becomes very diffucult to do that when they do nothing come trade time.

One cannot say that they are so solid or a great contender that a few trades wouln't help.

One can bank on one thing for sure, they got their new stadium and will not improve one bit. Thats simply facts and no jibber jabber.

central has a good playoff record compared to the yanks but I think most of us here cheer for a particular team in the central that has done a good job of keeping us interested during the regular season but not so much in the post season.

You make a lot of good points and your future pessimism is warranted until they do something.

I just go with the flow and understand how difficult it is to make trades at the deadline which of course is prov-en by the lack of trades which continue to be minimal around the league year after year.. it ain't easy everybody wants more for their product because they know you are in need.

My concerns are more in the off season free agent signings which I still hope will improve with the supposed revenues increases coming our way. Then again the M*M boys will chew up a big portion of that ...

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
