First Time on the Big Lake

My son and I are planning to come up this weekend and was wondering where should we try? I will be going out of Wheeler's Point area. Any help would be great! Thanks

Good luck on that first trip, if the water warms up expect a great bite, the fish are in the area. I made my first trip to that area last year for the opener and have never had a better trip. Fished it last weekend for opener as well, but didn't do nearly as well. Don't get me wrong, we still caught fish, just not as well as the year before. This year we caught fish in four mile bay, the gap at the river, in the river, and in light house gap. We caught fish at depths varying anywhere from 9-24 ft. The biggest change from last year I noticed was that the fish we caught this year are still spawning, last year we caught a number a of large females with no eggs in them. This year we only caught a few, the biggest was a 23" that still had her eggs, and the males we caught were also still full of sperm. Also caught a larger variety this year. Walleye, sauger, northern, perch, and two sturgeon. Last year nothing but walleye. Like I said, pray for good weather and warmer water temps and you should have the trip of a lifetime. Even if the conditions don't cooperate, you'll still have some great fishing. Good Luck.
