Fished this morning out of Warroad, pretty slow. Gonna have to try it again tonight. Wind blowing hard from the east/ne. Anybody catch anything worth noting? <P>------------------<BR>"I cut it twice and its still too short"<p>[This message has been edited by fishingfrenzy (edited 05-10-2003).]

We caught a 27, 26 a couple at 22, and a few eaters. Anchored ang jigged... and tried to stay in the boat.<P>It was brutal out there...<P>Quit to watch the wild game...

Widetrack, will you share your "hot spot"? or at least some tips? Your report is the best I've heard so far. Did you anchor on a reef or some sort of a bar? I might have to try that on the dnr reef tomorrow... Thanks and happy fishing.<P>------------------<BR>"I cut it twice and its still too short"

A better Saturday than it could have been.<BR>The wind never whipped up like it could<BR>have.<P>Dad caught one nice one (18 incher) right<BR>away Saturday morning and some bites from<BR>the little fish at South Point. I started in front of Toms Bay and did zip. We fished<BR>South Point till about 1 pm then went in <BR>for lunch. Spent more time at South Point<BR>after lunch and worked the shoreline all<BR>the way to Elm.<P>There was a small pack of boats at Elm<BR>and when we finally got there I found out<BR>why. There were some good fish there that<BR>would bite. There were some bait steelers<BR>and some Perch but also some nice 15 inchers.<P>We caught 2 keepers and a couple of tossers<BR>and quit at 7:30. If a guy had been there<BR>for a while in the afternoon he really could<BR>have had a nice bucket full.<P>3 keepers on Saturday. Didnt fish Sunday<BR>due to the wind.<P>Fishing with my Dad and his buddies eliminates going any distance or trailering<BR>to the gaps.<P>Zipple was good according the report I got<BR>from some friends over there. Havent heard<BR>anything from the Gaps or River<P> <P>------------------<BR>Curt Quesnell<BR>NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

Curt <BR>This is your Island neighbor. We we're in that little clump of boats on Sat, but we didn't do reeely well there. We had better luck about a 1/8mi. west of there off of the deep side of that little hump. We ended up with 6 total on the day after releasing 2 over 20 and one 24. Considering conditions that wasn't terrible I guess. We also graphed a LOT of fish over on the west shore by the pelicans. Can't wait til next weekend!!! Are you sticking around there or goin gappin??

FF:<P>We were on a gravel bar up in buffalo bay... Searched till we graphed lots of baitfish and tossed out anchor. North NE wind in the bay is no picnic to be out in.<P>I wouldn't say we had any real hot spot going.. It was good right away in the morning 9-11 then the wind stirred up the water good, and the fish seemed to quit even though they were still there. <P>I sure wish there was some shiner minnows to be had around here... <p>[This message has been edited by widetrack (edited 05-11-2003).]

Reefer,<P>I going up Friday afternoon and will prefish<BR>Sat Sun Mon Tues and spend Weds Thurs Fri<BR>on the River side of the lake at the PWT.<P>I will be "live" from the send offs in the<BR>mornings and the weigh-ins in the afternoons<BR>on 99.3 FM and 1460 AM.<P>Nice job on the opener. That area isnt one<BR>of the spots I go to first and it should be.<P><BR><P>------------------<BR>Curt Quesnell<BR>NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

I fished the gap and the river on Sat morning and didn't get out on Sunday. I did fairly well in the gaps and the river. With a couple over 23". Cold and wet out there!

Hogeye<P>Thanks for the report. I was wondering<BR>how it was on that end of the lake. With<BR>the Bay and the river there you really have<BR>a few weeks of leeway on where the fish<BR>might be without lots of travel.<P>Pam at Riverbend said the river was full<BR>of boats and fishing was pretty good<P><P>------------------<BR>Curt Quesnell<BR>NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

It's nice to get a few reports like this.<BR> <BR>We're heading up this Sat-Tues and staying at Walleye Retreat.<BR> <BR>The big decision will be what way to head, towards Morris Pt or towards the river.<BR> <BR>What's the best lake map to buy for this part of the lake?<P>Any general information would be great since we've only ice fished up here a few time, not a lot of open water experience on the big lake.<P>We're going to eat Dinner one night at Cryrus Resort, are there any other good spots we should check out in this area?<P>Where's the best place to catch a hockey game on the dish?<P>Thanks

Just thought that I'd mention that the walleyes that I caught on Sat. were all very full of eggs yet. Even the saugers were full of them. They may be shallow trying to drop the eggs right now. This was a surprise to me. Did anyone else notice this?

Fishing has been a little slow that past couple of days. Actions has been steady, but lots of small fish. I'll give it a try again tonight. Gold has been a good color too.

5/17 Warroad Area Report-<P>Went out at 5:50. Fished from the blinker to Taylors Bridge. Pretty slow from 6-7pm, picked up a bit after that until about 8:45. Some nice fish being caught on spinners with minnows. <BR>Any reports from the Elm-Buffalo area?<P>Happy Fishing<P><P>------------------<BR>"I cut it twice and its still too short"

5/18 nw angle report-<P>Just got back did pretty good by oak island. Nothing big. Nice eater size males. American Pt. not too bad either. Lipstick jig and shiner.

Fishkill<BR>How deep did you find those walleyes? Also did you get a water temp. I am heading up next weekend hoping to find the big females.<BR>Thanks

Posted

Fishkill<BR>Did you have any problems finding shiners? If you could tell me where you got them I would appreciate it. The Anle Outpost has chubs only. <BR>Thanks

Me and a bunch of guys just got back. We did really good in the gap, lots of small stuff. Alot of fish by a post sticking out of the water in the Gap. We did get bigger fish closer to Morris Point Resort. My brother got a 27.5" there with a frozen shinner. We also did well around Zipple bay. The bite really slowed down Saturday afternoon. Caught fish from 8-22 feet.

We fished the bay late sun. pm (4 til 6). It rained the whole time we were out. Fishing was good. Found them in 9 to 5 ft. of water. There wasn't enough wind to drift so we trolled the whole time. Firetiger bladed crawler harness's did the trick along with a hammered gold one.

5/20 Warroad Report<BR>Fishing was very good today out of Warroad. Filled out in an hour and a half with a lot of nice fish being caught. My guess is if the weather holds up, fishing should be excellent by this weekend. Happy Fishin.<P>------------------<BR>"Power? Fame? Prestige? Nah, I'd rather be fishing"

Went up this past weekend. Fished the gap on Friday - fairly slow - one here, one there. Did the best at lighthouse in the current - gold jig and fatheads in the evening. Fished at lambertson rock (rocky point) on Saturday. Did well 8-13 ft of water. Jigs/minnows. Went out to 12 mile and caught many big pike and a nice 26 1/2" walter that was released. Will be up again this weekend ** Upper Red Lake was going strong for crappies. A word for the tourney guys, slow down a little bit when you go flying by - it's a big lake.

Welcome back. Wow it's been since 2018 it looks like. Did you ever "I'm tightening up my footprint and want to build on my Bozeman lot on the Gallatin"?  😏

You're probably right. This isn't official since I've already lost, but I'll make my supplemental guess for May 6th since it's still open. 😄   As long as I can snake my way along the shore and/or plow through some dark ice on the 8th, I'll be happy. I love aluminum boats!

For all of my "problems" with getting a clear signal it's worth it. I can spend more time at the lake because I can work during the day and play or get things done at night. Toss in that I can record and watch a football/hockey/basketball game when I'm done at the end of the day....priceless.   Like your place, our property is more natural and I was worried about having to cut down a bunch of trees. I like that people have to get up close to see our place from the lake through the trees. Luckily I didn't have to do much to get enough a signal that works for me. If I needed to be on video calls, I probably would run the dish down to the shore to get a better view of the sky.   BTW - the main problem with mounting the dish on a tree is that the tree still has a canopy that will block the signal. The best option would be to top a tree and then mount it on the clear-cut top.

Not sure where on the lake you are located, but Paul Bunyan Communications will be extending fiber optic internet for most of the south shore of the lake in the next couple years. If you’re in Beatty township like me, unfortunately we have been snubbed from the expansion.

Our home, Casa De Miel, is in a quiet 1 street gated family neighborhood. With 3 bedrooms - 2 featuring en suite baths. The 3rd room with a beautiful new double queen bunkbed adjacent to the hallway half bath is perfect for kids. That bunkbed is made from the local protected Guanacaste wood, only dead harvested and available there, it is beautiful. All the wood and tile work is pretty cool - we couldn't afford those materials and workmanship here!!. The master has a spacious walk-in closet, and the bunkroom/office has an entire closet wall with safe. With the pool, internet, multiple big screens, an outdoor shower and lovely Casita with a roofed patio, it is perfect for multi-generational families, fishing expeditions, etc. Sleeping capacity is 8. Everything you need is there, and new, from beach and pool toys, PFDs, to quality kitchenware. Serving ware is patio safe, but the wine glasses are glass, so deploy the unbreakable stuff for the 3rd bottle or so. Our property managers are incredibly thoughtful and professional Americans, rated Superhosts on AirBNB. They check you in and are always available. The same crew thoroughly cleans and maintains the exterior landscaping after each visit, and are available additionally if you like for extended stays. Our property managers own their business and are the best - concierge level extra attention is easily arranged. The house is less than a mile to the closest town beach and about 2 miles to another beautiful beach featuring a fantastic beach restaurant. The fishing is great and as a flyfishing guide myself I can recommend thoroughly vetted captains to take you out with conventional tackle. There are kayak guides also. Shore fishing is great anywhere smart. Trout a couple hours uphill. There are local and top notch international grocery and retail stores. The famous 'Monkey Farm' (a unique recovery and animal rescue center with tours, beach horseback rides, etc.) is right there. Many excellent bars and restaurants. Moped and motorcycle, bike, golf cart, scooter and Ebike rentals are easy and about a half mile mile away towards the town center. Kayak, other water toys at the beaches. Surfing and surf lessons are available easily and depart from town beach, as well as whale watching and scenic coastline cruises - smart to research and if you choose, book ahead. We are a little over an hour to a beautiful National Park with hot springs, tours and zips lines, etc. The world famous Lake Arenal area with the volcano and hot springs is a little further, but a very easy day trip. Pricing is flexible but I had to put something in there, so I listed the average daily price. We prefer at least a 3 night rental. Pricing is dependent on your dates, and starts around $220/night - I can send a link with up to the minute pricing. Monthly and longer rentals offer significant discounts. The quiet season is beginning so it is a great time to visit! I have a rustic trout shack on the Madison, and drift rivers for smallies and muskies here in MN, WI, etc. It would be great to meet new fishing buddies through this rental. Maybe we can follow thru for some floats when our calendars line up, or otherwise share/swap resources or fishing opportunities! The property managers currently block out the calendar further than 6 months ahead. Any forum members can contact me and I will facilitate advance bookings. Feel free to email me if you have questions, here's the booking link. Thanks, Pura Vida - Vida de Tiron!

Well since I'm all over this state during the year. Your either not in Minnesota, or your on a Hugh chunk of private land backed up to a state park or wildlife refugee! 🤭

When I was deer hunting last fall, the obvious explosion of wildlife then was evident then too.  I saw over 50 deer, 20+ turkeys, and too many pheasants to count in a week.  Nothing has changed.  These mild fake winters have to be playing a big role in survival.  And if we get another good reproductive cycle in June, I would expect another booming fall season.
