Oh and when the weather lets us out it has been good off of Park Point as well as the North Shore. Hopefully the ice will leave the Superior South Shore area and we can start trying that shoreline. Any day now for that.

So no 30#er eh? Still mounting it? Nice fish either way.

I dont know for sure. My scale is off and until I can find something that weighs 30 lbs for sure I will not know what the laker weighs. I do know it is 26lb at least. (my scale was 4 pounds light on 18 lb. laker so this might be 30 even) I could not find anybody that would let me put it in there freezer so I ended up bringing it to a taxidermist by my house that could take it last night. I will remember that one for the rest of my life, I almost cut the line at first because I thought it was snagged. Then after that it ended up tangled in 3 other rods and a planer by the time I got it in the boat. It was a great long battle, I wish I had movie camera mounted in the boat. I have never heard a drag scream like that before, the old penn 209 made me proud.

I hope this weather pattern breaks and we get some nice temps and decent winds.

My goal this summer is to get my wife a big walleye off the South Shore. Her biggest walleye to date is 22" and I want to change that to 30" by the end of the summer. So the deep lakers might be a little safer this summer if I am busy chasing walleye around instead.

Great tell everyone and their brother! C'mon down to Port Wing.

Easy there its a big lake and thats a pretty general location. Since you bring it up I was actually 17 miles east. Keep it up and I will start posting GPS cords.

I would slow your comments about sharing info on this board, that is after all the reason why we all come here. 2 the point was not sharing coords and gave very general information to get a fisherman started.

Not to mention the town can use the revenue generated from a hot bite, if you could call it that. I know the Port bar enjoys my dollars. The launch likes my money, not to mention the 60 gallons in gas I pump every time I head to Port.

Not for nothing, it is the largest freshwater lake in the world.

Not even the largest lake in the world is safe from the "too much info" gripe crazy WOW!

I wasn't using the riggers in the pic, but I did have the back two down 3 feet with a bent higher speed spoon about 10 feet behind the release.

I wasnt going to say anything, but the above comments are just plain unwarranted and I will keep my personal feelings out of it.

Any time I fish any of the great lakes I am almost always willing to share my GPS coordinates if there at least a day old. Anyone that fishes that lake should know that the fish are always moving and today's coordinates are probably only as good as the day they were fished. Once I share my coordinates from yesterday or 2 or 3 days ago, you'll still will have not learned anything about finding fish and you will certainly not be fishing in my way now since I have moved with the fish! Maybe learning to fish the lake and actually catching some fish would be more important to most people anyday than some coordinates on Lake Superior. I have tried to help lots of people and teach them how to find fish on Lake Superior and never ever did a GPS have anything to do with it. I think if you'd ask many of the FMer's here that I go with they'd tell you that I dont need a GPS or a depthfinder and I can probably land you on fish everyday I go out. I'll take the wind or yesterday's wind, water temp, and traditional seasonal movement for info anyday.

Lake Superior: The largest freshwater lake in the world:

31,820 sq miles

One boat that is 8.5'W x 22'L = Less than 187 square feet!

1 Square Mile = 27,878,400 Square Feet

So in other words if my calculations are right; you could fit 149 of the average Lake Superior boats in a square mile.

Anyone that wants to learn how to find fish on Lake Superior can hook up with me anytime, and I will try to provide you with more info before you even start in the water that will help you catch more fish, and there will not be a GPS even mentioned. I have spent so much time out there that I think if there was a shortcut to catching more fish or a better way to run lines I have tried it and failed more than once to get it to work better.

Not trying to speak for you Chris but: 2thepointsetter (Chris)is one great individual that I have had the pleasure of fishing with a few times, who I met on this FM board because he took me up on this very offer. I loaded him up with info. and Chris has soaked it all in rapidly and really taken everything in and made it work for him as you can see from the pictures he posts here often, and he'll probably tell you the same. And by no means did I teach him everything nor do I know everything, but I believe that he is in turn trying to help others do just exactly that; simply help!

Gazer, you would not have been able to launch a boat at the Mcquade on Sunday. Too much ice. Were you able to get out this morning? I think your info was a little off. Hope you did not make a run for nothing. Careful out there today. Up to 45 mile per hour gusts forecast!

I'm gonna try getting out on Thursday again probably out of duluth, so far the wind look good. I'll let you know how that unfolds!

Fished Monday out of the Duluth Entry. We did graph fish from the entry to about Glensheen. We caught nothing other than a nice snag that took my tackle. Boy did it fight though!

1st time out today...launched at McQuade and ended up trolling the sand off park point. Great day, but no fish. Warmest water we found was 39 degrees off the point. Lester was 36-38 degrees. And I had a hankerin' for some fresh Coho...:) Soon...

Hit the South Shore out of the Cheesey side and didnt hook up but Outdoorran got a couple dandy steelhead and a coho. Graphed a lot of fish just out of the entry and a huge school of smelt in about 55' of water outside the entry. 38 degrees was the warmest water I found with water down to 34 degrees. CHILLY!

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
