I was hoping that someone out there could help me out. I will be having surgery on my shoulder next month, and had a trip to LOTW planned for a couple weeks after surgery. Being that I won't be able to use my one arm, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas, or tricks which would enable me to fish with my one good arm. I hate to be left behind for this trip, so If anyone has any ideas, let me know. This might be useful to other people too.
Thanks, Brett Meyer
[This message has been edited by Brett Meyer (edited 04-20-2003).]

Just dont fall overboard. It would be what they call a circle swimmer. smile.gif But with your arm, I would find a rod with a longg cork end, which you could hold with your legs and reel with your arm. Thats the only idea I could think of right now. Hopefully someone has a better way. Good luck!

------------------
Two pretzels were walking down the street. I am not sure where but I am sure that I have seen electric reels out there somewhere that would probably work. Hold on I will check Cabelas smile.gif Here it is:
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jhtml?id=0014201&navAction=jump&navCount=0&indexId=&parentId=&parentType=&rid=&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon% 2Fcatalog%2Fpod-link.jhtml.2_A&_DAV=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcontent%2FPod%2F01%2F42%2F01%2Fp014201ii01.jpg
Kinda pricey, but I am guessing it would work!

if you can find a way to lock the rod to your seat or something, you would only need the one arm. or in your spare time try and see if you can reel with your feet smile.gif if nothing else head up anyway and be the net guy. atleast then you can be out on the water.

My brother-in law fished for many years with a one armed man. As a teenager, his arm was torn off by a hay baler(that had to really hurt). Anyway, he uses a belt mounted device very similar to the one shown by Grabs. After getting used to it, he did pretty well, especially trolling cranks, where he didn't have to cast as much as when jig fishing. He developed a sense of humor about what his profile looked like while wearing the contraption. He even gave it a name that can't be printed here.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I am thinking some type of harness and cup deal would probably be my best bet. That electric reel would be nice, but $350 for something I would only use a couple times is a little spendy. But then again! Oh well, if you have any more ideas let me know. The trip is on June 5th so I have some time to figure it out.
Thanks again,
Brett

Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter. Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th. I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th. Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt. Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
