Here it is. This years winning line-up! grin

Let's hear from everyone.

I'm DonBo (Don) Been turkey hunting since 1979. Hard to believe. I've hunted them in six different states but mostly now just Minnesota and Wisconsin along with So. Dak in the fall.

I've shot a bunch with my bow but I like the "Get Even" factor of my 870 Wingmaster. I will be hunting the metro area in MN (last season) and zone 4 (south of 94) in Wisconsin, May 6-10, and May 13-17.

Hi guys,

I'm delzz7-Dave This will be my four year hunting turkeys in a row. Turkey hunting has turned into a passion of mine.

This year, I will be hunting 3 states Mn, Iowa, Nebreska. I'm not sure yet, how much I will get to hunt at each one, do to work.

Iowa is the first season April 13-16, last year was my first time hunting there and was successful harvesting one. I hunt in Northern central area on public land. I going down saturday to do some scouting and try get some permission for some private land. I hope the weather starts to improve real soon.

It will be my first time hunting in Nebraska, Me and 2 other guys are going to try the Pine Ridge Area in the northwest corner by Chadron. We are going to be out there April 22-26, having never hunted there before, I don't know what to expect. We been calling the CO & area biologists to gather as much info as possible. We will probably be doing a lot of run & gun style hunting.

My Minnesota season is I believe season F in the 339 area.

I can't wait to get started, Good Luck to everyone

APA

Hey, this is APA

This will be my first year turkey hunting. A friend and I weren't able to draw any tags so we'll be using bows. He's in group 6 so I'll do my best to show him up. We're going to be hunting on my dad's land (200 acres) in zone 213 in douglas county, near Evansville.

Our land is pretty much overrun with turkeys, they are getting annoying. They waltz into the yard, and the dogs have built up tremendous respect for them (I would have liked to see how that happened). Sometimes getting down the driveway can be a near-death experience for several birds. I think there is somewhere around 100 birds that call the place home. It should be interesting. Nice meeting you all.

By the way, "tominators" has my vote.

Sorry guys,I really haven't been on here lately as I've been getting ready to go in the field and with baseball.

I'm Scott Stein and this will 7th year turkey hunting. I have only gotten a jake and that was last year on opening day of Season C in the blizzard! I am thinking about taking my bow out this year just for the fact that every turkey that has been shot out of the same spot has been 20yds or closer. Other than that I am hunting season C and Team Tominators sounds good to me! Good luck to all and I'll be checking back a little more often! Oh ya,I'll be hunting down in the Minnesota River Bottom near Courtland

Just waiting for Huntmup now.

Eyehead starts just a couple days later, next Wednesday. Good luck to both you guys! Hope you think about us sitting back here for weeks yet before we get to go.

Don't forget to bring a camera and a ruler for pictures for the contest submission.

Here's the rules again and the Contest Submission Form. Maybe print a copy before you go to keep everything fresh in your mind.

I went down last weekend and did some scouting. I was given permission to hunt on two pieces of land, next to some state land. One of the places, I heard a gobble and tryed to get a location on them. I ended up jumping them, probably 8-10 birds. I saw a flock of hens cross the road running towards the land 4 hrs later. The other spot I have seen birds there before, but didn't see them last saturday. Its looking like I will not be able to hunt on monday, do to work. I can't wait to go.

Hello team mates.

My name is Dan and I am a Turkey Addict. This is my 11th year of turkey hunting/killing. My first time out I killed a 24-1/4 lb., 1-3/8" spurs and 4-1/4" beard. That's all it took, the next year I hunted MN, NE. and Iowa.

Now I throw SD. in the mix.

I will be hunt 440-A this year. So the plan is to scout monday, tuesday and set up for wednesday morning. I will also be guiding at the same time. Hope we can both stick one before saturday because I am a mentor for the youth hunt.

Then I guide 157-B, 157-C, 440-E and 440-G. crazyBUT cool

My SD hunt will not work out this year but I am still trying to get in a NE hunt.

Good luck and most of all have fun. gringrin

Looks like it was a good day for the Tominators.

Congrats to Huntmup & Eyehead

I also shoot a Bird early this morning. Beard 9.5 inches, spurs 3/4 inch, only weighed 17pds 11oz. Unforturnity the big one got away. I had 4 Toms and one jake come in to 20 yards. The only probelm was my gun clicked 3 times when I tryed to shoot, before it went bang. It was operator error. In the morning I was quietly loading the gun and didn't get the action closed all the way. Then it happen 2 more times with the birds 20 yards in front of me. It took me 3 times to figure it out and by that time. The big Tom that I tryed to shoot was 35-40 yards out with another Tom right in front of him, moving farther away. I didn't want to risk it. So, I shoot the next biggest. Maybe next year, me and big tom will meet again. I promise that will not happen again.

I went down on Tuesday, boy was that brutal. I only saw two hens one at 7am and the other at 1:30.

Great job Dan. I was waiting to hear how you did. I saw you running around over the weekend and almost stopped when I saw you talking to Rebstock but was running late. Good luck this weekend on the mentor hunt I hope you get the kid one. My son did the mentor hunt a couple years ago and he had a fun time. Got some really cool footage of a hen trying to beat up the decoys. I think the guides name was Mark Iverson...I can''t remember..great guy tho. Oh, shoot, don't tell my team mates that I was hear...

Well, the youth hunt did not go as well as hoped. Sat morning there was little gobbling nearby. I did call in a big hen, three times. She had no boy friends with her, what's up with that?

We then had a big tom come in close gobbling every few minutes but other than an early glimpse he never showed himself. The kid was pretty excited though.

This morning, lots of early gobbling but never heard so much as a cluck after 6:30. Never saw a bird today. Oh well, that's hunting.

Our youth hunt went quite well. We had nine boys and one girl participating. Two birds were tagged on saturday and one today. One bird was missed on saturday and one youth decided to pass on a jake. After the hunt on saturday all participants met at Birch Cooley Park for hotdogs and chips. After lunch each kid stood up and talked about their experience of the hunt. I had a great time and will definitely mentor again next year.

This is the bird tagged by the youth I was mentoring.

The bird had three beards, one 6" and two 7", and yes he is HOOKED.

Thanks for the update Muskies. Making preparations to head north in 3 weeks. We are so looking forward to cooler weather and the song of the loon. Love those pictures, keep them coming. Cheers and good fishing !!

Was up this past week and fishing was really slow.  Trolled deep from Big Island to Foleys and back with one Northern the results.  Really was not a whole lot suspended in the 50+ water. There is no way to fish middle Whitefish on the weekend.  Every pontoon in the world now ties up around the sand dune island and the boat traffic is unreal.  Looks like Minnatonka ,  not a good thing. Did get a few small walleyes on leeches early morning , nothing to brag about.  Keep a eye out ,   lots of crazies out there.  Think the Sheriff needs to hit the lake for a few days to settle the Windsor crowd down a little.

Anyone use the access at Trout Lake on the Whitefish Chain?  If so have you had issues with turning around in the parking lot due to the inspector parking in the no parking zone that is marked off with yellow lines?  I get into arguments every time I am at that access because the inspector feels they have the right to park in an area that is not to be parked in.  It is becoming annoyingly fun for me to get on them and educate them on where to not park!  This has to be one of the worst accesses in the state when it comes to traffic, space, and inspectors.  Many times they have an inspector there that will give you a 15 minute lecture on invasives even though you have heard his speech before!!!  Power trip and then some!!!!  I respect most inspectors I come into contact with, but WOW are some just go a little overboard on their inspection.  I have to laugh my ass off when the inspector runs us over about water in our livewell (talking about drops of water around the drain ring) saying we could get fined $800 if we leave the access like that, yet what do the inspectors say to the wake boat that pumped in 1000 gallons of water into it and most certainly cannot dispel all the water and an inspector cannot see!!  Not sure what it is about this particular access but I have had the worst experiences there and do not have similar experiences elsewhere, so I just had to ask if other see this too.

When was the last time you heard anyone rant and rave about Eurasian Water Milfoil? Introduced to MN in 1987 and through the 90’s, we complained, complained, blamed the DNR, cried that this invasive weed was going to kill off many fish because the invasive plant overtook native vegetation. DNR, lake associations and others monitored lake assesses for years to prevent transfer to no avail. Were creatures of habit and don’t like change. And NO Eurasians Water Milfoil did not kill off all the fish, as lots of fish still are caught along the much easier defined weed lines. Of the 388 DNR reported infested lakes only 20 new lakes were added in the last year and ½ and no longer seen to be an issue. Now we have a Zebra Mussel invasion, introduced to MN in 1995 with the same, rant & rave as was with the EW Milfoil, fostered by the DNR and news media with all the negative effects. They will eat all the Zooplankton fish food, large attachments to solid objects, sharp shells on bottom cutting swimmers feet etc. What we hear little about Zebras each adult filters 1 quart of water daily eating algae, a single cell plant Phytoplankton, including the toxic Blue-Green algae which for years been known to kill fish, dogs and humans. A female can produce a million eggs annually so the spread in infested lakes is rapid. Within a couple years the green, brown lakes are clear promoting vegetation growth to deeper water providing more cover for smaller fish. It ticks us fishing people off because our fishing techniques used for the last 50 years no longer work as fish feeding habits change. For us avid fishing people we will learn the new fish feeding habits on infested lakes rather quickly while occasional fishers may never learn new techniques which will increase fish population. While Zebras filter vast amount of algae they secrete a highly nutrient feces on the lake bottom providing a smorgasbord for bottom feeders including many of the minnows and other bait we use. After 4 to 5 years a large number of zebra die as their algae food supply is depleted. Hang in there, 465 bodies of MN waters already infected with Zebras with70 in 2019/2020. Infestation will continue as most boat access will not be monitored and the vast majority of boaters could care less about prevention. Another infestation will most likely happen and we will no longer focus on Zebras. Just a thought. The first excel file is the DNR link to all infestations. Second file Eurasian milfoil and Zebra lakes   https://files.dnr.state.mn.us/eco/invasives/infested-waters.xlsx   Zebra-Eurasion infested.xlsx

I’ve been actually catching more walleyes out there than I can ever recall. I wonder if maybe the dredging might have something to do with it   I just might slip in a few trolling rods with crawler harnesses in my ride locker next time and if the lake trout aren’t biting I may just sort of slip right into the Wisconsin entry and might just happen to drop some crawler harnesses
    • Pat McGraw
BirchPtMike, The correct response to jtschwinn97 would have been "yes, totally fished out. spread the word." 😄JK I love the honest supportive feedback this group can be counted on for. Good luck and safe boating from Breezy Point in Frazer Bay.
