Can you fish 4 lines (2 guys, two lines each) comfortably out of them?

Posted

Two guys 4 lines works ok in a Lodge sized house. It's still a pretty small area to be putting 4 lines down.
If I was concerned with space, I'd consider getting the otter resort, that thing is pretty big. Or maybe even the otter that flips off both sides, that would probably be the best for 2 guys.
I'm a big otter fan also. Get a magnum at least. The med. is a bit dramped with 2. Next size up from mag. is the large and it is is way nice for 2 fisherman and gear.
Fisky

Thanks guys. I like running a bobber rod as well as a jig stick. For two guys to do that, you need a little elbow room.
The Otter II Large Resort might be the ticket - it's 84" long.

Look at that double unit that Shoremaster makes. Duffman over on the Shanty picked one up a few weeks back.
Two guys fish on opposite sides of the tub, spreading out the distance between the holes.
Canvascraft also makes a double wide tarp for the Otter tubs.

i have a small Frabill Speed Trap. It is great for one person 2 lines or 2 people one each, but a large or extra large would be great for 2 people. i got mine this year and regeat not having it sooner. Plus they are easy to set up by yourself and very sturdy. hope this help and good fishing. Hunter

Hey Guys,
I'm looking at picking up a portable in the near future. I'm thinking there may be some season ending clearance sales going on somewhere.
I would like to get one that is big enough to comfortably fish 2 guys with 2 lines each (one jig rod and one dead stick). Also looking for ease to put up, ability to haul gear (poles, minnows, gear, etc..), durability, and ease to trailer behind a wheeler or snowmobile.
I wouldn't mind spending a bit more if I'm getting a good product.
Anybody out there have any opiniions on what works well for them???
Thanks-Tim

Fish Trap II or fish trap guide without question!

It's hard to beat an otter!
I've have 2, one that is 8-9 years old, the other 5 or so. They are both in great shape, and get used/abused pretty hard.

Otter Medium or Magnum they are the best for pulling behind snowmobile or 4 wheel heavy canvas great sled. However you probably won't find on on close out because of there popularity most are sold out by the end of winter.
------------------
Grip it and Rip it
IFFWalleyes
I Fish For Walleyes

My choice 3 years ago Fish Trap Voyegeur. Fishes 2 people very comfortable. Good sized sled, pull great behind ATV.
As far as the 4 lines! Any time you have lines within 3' of each other in deep water, the tangle up will happen.
I can set this house up alone in 10 minutes, includes drilling the holes. Good luck and hang on. Bill

I had the chance to fish out of a couple different portables this year and will buy the Clam 1060 no questions asked next year. It has the room you are looking for. Four of us fished full days on URL and LOW this past year very comfortably, and we're not little guys. This also handles the wind far better than anything else I was in. Set up is very easy, can be done by one person. And, if it takes you an extra five minutes to set it up compared to a smaller shack, it's well worth it for a full day of comfortable fishing. Also, I was surprised how easy it was to heat, considering how much air space you have, even on that mid February trip to URL when we had the -15 actual temp with -79 wind chill. Cozy.

I like some of the units by Eskimo, too.

Yellow Sub,
I was looking at that big Clam too. But what about hauling the shack AND gear with a wheeler or snowmobile.
Would the sled type shacks have an advantage there because you can put all your gear right in the sled. I guess you can't have it all.

Hammer,
The Clam 1060 is the suitcase style house. I haven't pulled it behing my old three wheeler but We did take it for a walk or two during the early ice. One of the things I like most about it is the fold outs. You don't have to cut holes in the floor to fish. On the other models with the holes in the floor, they catch snow when you pull it. We were able to load almost all our stuff on it. If I remember correctly, the only thing we carried were the lanterns, for obvious reasons. I wouldn't have any worries about the sled holding up pulled behind a sled or a wheeler, just so long as you don't drive like a JackA$$. I think it would be pretty easy to strap your gear on top. The other thing to consider if you have a wheeler, pull a small trailer, if you're machine will make it thru the snow to start with, the trailer will follow just fine. If you use a sled, you might have to be a little more creative.

Go bigger than the Otter Med. I have one and I cant see 2 guys and 2 lines a piece in it. The sleds are the difference in the Otters and Fishtraps. Ive had both and my opinion is the Otter will last longer especially with the Hyfax runners.
