i just can't stand the thought of not fishing one more winter day on LOW. can't make it until saturday, do you think the ice at long point is good enough for one last try? will gladly walk out since its not that far. whats everyone think? is it worth the all night drive from stillwater?

I just talked with the lady from long point and she said that they are kind of on a day by day basis right now and to call before you come up. She said no more pick ups on the lake and they were still letting 4 wheelers and snow moblies go out. She said that people are going to have to park on the hill and walk down they aren't going to let people park on the ice anymore. I plan to call later this week and find out more. Because I am in the same boat I would like one more trip that is all I am asking for.
------------------
Grip it and Rip it
IFFWALLEYES

Iff/hawks: I definitley see a major case of ice withdrawal developing here based on your posts. It certainly seems as though just one more might do it for you both...Sure hope you get the chance, but be safe it won't be that long and you'll have enough space along the shoreline to cast and retrieve. Good luck and hang on. Bill

Hawks" I really appreciate the invite. Man I would love to do it one more time, but it just won't work out. I put the fishing gear away last weekend as the ice down here is really going south. Hope you guys have a great time, catch a bunch and be safe. Good luck and definitley hang on. Bill

Hawks, I might be up for the challenge. Right now my wheeler is torn apart in the garage, but there is about a 50/50 shot I will have it back together and ready to go for this weekend. And if I don't get it back together, the walk out of Long Point really isn't that bad either.
I need to check with my roommates and see if any of them are interested in going, if they aren't anyone around here interested in jumping in the truck Friday afternoon and fishing Saturday and half of Sunday?

Twist my arm,..ouch ouch! I'm going, with or without the ATV and I am going to fish LOW once more!!
Hawks, you have mail.

hey grabs, my truck will be packed fro the 6 hour trip to long point, hope to be on the ice by 11 am saturday, right in front of the resort. i'll have my genz fish trap pro but will probably just move hole to hole in 25 feet, then go to 15 about 3pm for the evening bite. hope to see ya there, i'll have my grill too, stop by for a hot dog or burger. all welcome!

Hawks: Can you shoot one of those burgers with mustard only down here to St Cloud. At least I can pretend I'm there havin' a great time. Have a good time guys. Bill

Hawks, where are you staying?
Possible change of plans here, I have a room at the American Inn, but we might book a mobile home at Long Point and just stay there.

Be careful with the wheelers by this weekend. The ice is rotting from the bottom up - it's kinda weird. Drill about half way down and hit pockets of water. It's gonna go fast - so call ahead and get good info.
Just got back from there yesterday. Fishing was awesome - lot's of big fish. Wish I could go back up for another shot - good luck.

hey grabs;
got your email, this is just a flying trip, coming saturday morning early, leaving stillwater at 2 am, hoping for long point at 8-9 am, fish all day then to my bros in bemidji that night. got your cell #, will call when i am close saturday am. lets hook up on the ice and share a few stories. look forward to seeing you .

Be very careful if you go out with an atv, as Hammersmite said. There are cracks & soft holes the front wheels can sink into. Better off with a snowmobile, if there's any snow left by this weekend. And, it really isn't too far to walk with a small sled from the Long Point access, if you go straight out in front.

Everyone,
It all depends on which part of the lake you want to fish.
We were on the South Shore right out of Warroad this past weekend 29th and 30th and they have 40 inches of ice but it is really getting bad. We drove out there in a car - we saw many pickups and ATV's going out there as well. You could easily make it out there in the next two weeks with ATV's and Snowcats - I dont recommend Pickups anymore. We really ripped the pike when we were out there too. Caught 2 over 40 inches that are going on the wall and many many more 10-16 lb Pike
Any questions please ask
watchman

thanks fisky. do you have any info as to the ice conditions?

Hawksguy, it isn't looking good for me making it up there this weekend. If no one else contacts me with an interest to go I will cancel my reservation this afternoon.
If anyone is looking for lodging in Baudette let me know, so I can let you in on my room when I cancel it.

Looking very good for ice fishing this weekend. Freezing weather today, with more snow predicted. smile.gif

Pop ups have increased for me for a while now. Timed to cover my usual taps about the time I would tap.

So there is a boat on a friend's property, has been there for about 4 years, with no contact from owner, and she is unreachable. It was last registered in 2020. Is there any way for him to make it his, legally?

I'm getting a lot of popups adds. Just wondering if it's just my computer or is every one getting them?

Birds at home have been quiet and out of sight. Not sure where they went. Last year they wouldn’t respond to calls - until they did. But that will be common until the girls quit being friendly.

I've seen about 60 turkeys in 1.5 days of hunting thus far. Unfortunately they are not responding to calls or decoys and the only birds that have walked within range are hens. It's just a waiting game now. Deer hunting for turkeys, hoping a legal one walks past before I have to quit in a few days...

A bunch of webcams available these days to see progress as well: https://lakevermilionresorts.com/webcams/ Looks to be pulling away from shore. I expect ice out between next Friday and Sunday based on temps in the forecast. Some sun and then some wind would get it going quickly.

But wait Meg, there's more! Anyway, do you like fishing? Trolling's kind of fun! 🤭
    • leech~~
Well lol, Google is your friend! 🤭 Yes, the 2012 movie "Loon Lake" was filmed in Minnesota. Specifically, it was shot in southwest Minnesota, with locations including Round Lake, Pioneer Village, and Jackson County. The film is also based on a local legend from southwest Minnesota about a witch who lived by Loon Lake.
    • leech~~
Well indeed there is a movie and the trailer will help you near down the 25 lakes a lot by just checking into the Loon Lakes in Southwest, MN. Should be easy now. Have fun. Eager to escape the grief and nightmares of the city, Louis Olsen travels to Southwest Minnesota, seeking the peace of the rural countryside. When he accidentally disturbs the grave of a supposed local 'witch' Mary Jane Terlinden, what began as a peaceful reprieve unravels into a haunting nightmare from which Louis cannot escape - but is it all just in his head?

Great. That's usually a good sign for ice break-up.
