LOST PORTABLE!!!

I lost my green Eskimo Quick Flip 3 portable fish house on February 14th at 7pm. I was fishing on Lake Ida in the Winstead/Waverly area. I think I lost it coming off the lake or somewhere along the gravel road leaving the lake. It was the house, 20lb tank, scoop shovel and 2 otter rod holders. Please, if you found this unit be kind and return, it also had my MDNR# 004-231-817 on a piece of paper stuck in the license holder of the door. I can be reached by phone at 320-583-5129. Thanks, Shawn

Hope you find your gear. That would be very disheartening. Maybe it's possible they'll be able to get a hold of you using your DNR # by contacting the DNR. Never tried it though and don't now if it can be done. Have faith in the good ones out there, which I hope most of us are.

Hope you find it, sorry to hear you lost it. Never know, I've seen people get things back using this site. Good luck to you.

How is a very good question.

I do feel for you however it happened. Like Sandman said using this site you can get very lucky. Other than that if you lost it by any nearby residential houses coming off the lake you might want to start by going door to door. One of the locals might have spotted it or better yet grabbed it especially if it was on a road. Good luck.

Not hard to lose really if its hitched or tied to a machine . I've had my hitch fail numerous times but I was lucky because the bride was watching or a friend riding behind . All my best in seeing it returned . From what I have seen on this site in the past I honestly think you have a shot at it .

Thanks for all the support! My wife and I were in a hurry loading things up in the truck cause our lil boy was getting sick and I forgot to close the tailgate on my truck. I heard it slide around as usual but this time I didn't have the tailgate shut on my truck and when I got home I went to unload it and my auger (that didn't slide out) and my house was gone. Just in a mad rush and stupidity on my part is how I lost it to answer your questions. I heard it slide either coming off the incline of the access or when I stopped for my boy to get in his car seat and took off again. I didn't think twice about it cause it always slides in the back of my truck but usually I have the tailgate up. Thanks

Yes, I drove back to the lake and looked for it, my buddy was also fishing out there and left awhile after I did, but to many people left in between him and I that probably found it.

Call the local sheriff's office and let them know about it, somebody might have contacted them about finding it. That is how we found the owner of one that we found on the highway.

Good advice, hopefully whoever picked it up does the right thing.

Worst case...if it doesn't turn up...it means...UPGRADE!!!

I hope who ever found it will turn it in because likely they wouldn't need a second house if they are already fishing.

Good luck!

Good stuff! I was going to say that it would probably be covered under the car insurance. But, good thing you don't have to raise your rates!

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st
