Reading lake topo maps...

Can anyone refer me to a good resource for reading lake maps? Any books, DVDs, or web sites that show how to read topo maps pertaining to types of fish and where they like to hang out. I tried googling but can't seem to find anything that gets basic enough to show what a reef, point, saddle, etc look like. Just trying to gain more info so I can catch a few more next year! Thanks.

With only 18 posts it looks like you're relatively new to this site so maybe I'll start by suggesting that you have found the most extensive source of information you possibly could. Just wait for the responses.

Unfortunately, I'm not the best representative so I'll watch too.

I am unaware of such a book. Reading a topo isn't all that hard though.. And many maps are just a guess at best anyway. Its someones idea of what is down there.

The closer the topo lines are together, the steeper the drop off, while the farther they are apart its more flat.

understanding fish migration will help you a long way. Points are shallow areas that reach out into the lake, and inside turns are deeper water areas close to shore. Many fish as we go into late ice will migrate to inside turns and shallow weed flats adjacent to points. But that isnt always the case.
