Big Al out for season

Star Tribune Staff Report:

Al Jefferson, the Timberwolves' best player, will likely miss the rest of the season with a torn knee ligament. He suffered the injury Sunday night in New Orleans near the end of the Wolves' 101-97 loss to the Hornets.

Jefferson leaped, landed awkwardly on one foot and tumbled to the floor. He got back up, hopped toward the Wolves' bench but collapsed, writhing in pain and clutching his right knee. The torn ACL is the same injury suffered by 2007 first-round pick Corey Brewer earlier this year.

"He's our main thing, the focus of what we do," Foye said after Sunday night's game. "Coming down on one leg, all his weight, heard a pop. That's scary to even think about. You've got to hope for the best and pray it's not the worst. You hope he only misses a couple of games. That's better than 32."

Jefferson leads the Wolves in scoring and rebounding, averaging a career-high 23.1 points and 11 rebounds per game. In the past 10 games, he has averaged 26.9 points and 11.8 rebounds and has come up big against the toughest obstacles, scoring 36 points and grabbing 22 rebounds against the Houston Rockets and 7-6 center Yao Ming and coming up with 34 points and 11 rebounds against the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics.

The loss of Jefferson is another bitter pill to swallow for a team already saddled with significant injury problems. The first big blow came when Brewer blew out a knee in late November and was lost for the season. Then Kevin Ollie, who had been a frequent starter at point guard, dislocated his left elbow in early January and hasn't been back. And starting power forward Craig Smith suffered a cracked rib last week and is expected to be out at least until after this weekend's All-Star break. Additionally, swingman Mike Miller has missed significant time with ankle injuries.

They weren't going anywhere this season anyway. Boost their position in the draft and hope Big Al heals 100% for next year.

I have to disagree. Maybe they weren't going anywhere this year. They have made one heck of a run. 32 games left and they're back 15. For as much as they have struggled thats not bad at all. Hopefully big Al recovers as Cardinal or Madsen will see some some more PT.

That's bad news. They were turning things around. They weren't playoff bound, but it was nice to see them winning. Hopefully they can still do well without him.

we were 9th which is crazy.

i have david robinson hopes on this one. the spurs tanked after the injury and ended up with duncan and rings.

there could be a positive to this if we somehow end up with ricky rubio

I was watching that game and I swear I started thinking we are so lucky to have a player that never gets hurt again, similar to Garnet, then all of a sudden, down goes Big Al.

I take full resposiblity. Now what am I supposed to watch on TV? I started to really enjoy watching the T.wolves again.

Gophers? spiraling down to the NIT again. Wild? I can only watch in fast forward, stoping at the fights and goals.

Do they televise La Crosse yet?

With Jefferson out this is going to give Love a lot more minutes and we will see if he can put a double double up. Then get a lotto pick out of this

I’m really hoping to make it up there on Saturday. Might try a couple different spots, pending success rate.

Also depends on if your married or not, or want to stay that way! 😄  At my buddies old place since he had an out house we would just bring water and start using it when we could get the heat up with a fire place and a few elc, heaters as to not die. Then we were good! 😉

Hello everyone,    I know I'm new to this website, but I've been fishing for a while now. A few years ago I picked up a Black Betty 6061 for ice fishing and I bent the handle trying to put it into a Frabil hard case on an exceptionally cold day (dumb me). I wrote a few emails to 13 Fishing/called 5 times and explained the situation and they told me I would have to pay for my parts. I said that was fine because it was my fault (even though I thought the handle should be a little sturdier).   Flash forward a 2 weeks later and I have my new handle. I took the old handle off and put the new one on, but the retaining screw that holds the washer for the nut in place wouldn't fit. The new handle 13 Fishing sent to me has a screw hole tapped too small. I called 13 and they were not aware of a screw size change. I asked them to send me a screw that would fit the handle and they said okay. 2 Weeks later, no screw. I called them again and explained that I had been over a month without this reel operational and no one had sent anything. I told them that I had a fishing trip coming up in the next two days and they could either overnight the screw to me or send it to the location I was going to be fishing. They said they would send it and it didn't come before the trip, nor did it come after the trip I just came back from.    They either sent me the wrong handle that doesn't fit my old BB, or they changed the dimensions of their design. I'm just trying to get my reel operational and it seems like such an easy thing. I'm probably going to go down to the store and just grab a small screw that will fit, but it seemed too easy for 13 Fishing to send me the part. How should I deal with 13 Fishing now? Has anyone else dealt with this issue before? I really liked 13 Fishing's gear, but if this is what happens when something goes wrong, I may end up turning elsewhere for the $$.

I always use a dead stick next to a jigging hole.  The water is clear so you can get pretty high off the bottom to bring them in and then lower it to them.  Red hook on the dead stick during the day and anything glow after dark if you want but I use pink.  I usually use fat heads or rainbow with good success.  My go to is a pink and blue rattle spoon or red.  Just off of structure during the day with a nice easy move of 15 feet or so to the top of the structure morning or night.

Now it sounds like they’re shooting for October. Won’t be possible by fishing opener

Depends on the year.  Typically early May.   Some years you can get away with earlier....

You are welcome Icehawk. I want some great fishermen there to teach and pass on knowledge. I also want to showcase the friendships that can be made here.

It would be great if he is right.   Now, if he is wrong......   Still need to stop deer farms from spreading this disease.

GPS!  Helping my son move into a new house this Sat or that sounds like something to try. Didn't really want to spend my last weekend of Walleye season lifting craap up and down stairs! 😟  Good Luck.
