I said he was pretty close, right?? .290 isn't close??? And I agree about the glove getting him in, I was just saying his BA all in all wasn't pitiful, winning a silver slugger award isn't too shabby.

your exact words were, "close to .300 most of his career". .290 is close but the point was that he only batted that twice in 19 years. Nick Punto hit close to .300 once that does not make him prolific offensively.

A-Rod is only making it worse for himself. He and his cousin did them together, and he didn't even know if they were working...... Right.... crazy

I think just about all of the players are on roids, that's the way it is. They made the choice to take them and there really is no way around it. There are ways they can beats those tests and I don't think we are at the end of the steroid era. I think it will be around forever. Love it or hate it, call it cheating if you want, it made baseball more exciting for the fans.

BTW- Joe Mauer is probably one of few who are not on roids.

What was that load of carp A-Rod was slinging. The next words I expected to hear after he went into that fake welling up and choking routine was.....And the Oscar goes to.........!

I guess we can add him to the collection of tools in the shed! Maybe not the biggest but he is in the shed fo sho. LOL

I don't even care anymore. Nothing is a sacred. nobody has character.

How many of you can honestly admit that you wouldn't take roids for 6 months if you could double or triple your income for the next 6 years. I don't make millions, but I would do it. Plus I'd be totally buff!

Baseball didn't have a steriods policy for a long time. Yes, it was against the law, but so is a lot of stuff that people do and get away with. I'm not saying it is OK, but to have a 20 year absence of inductees into the HOF is rediculous. Or to call for guys to be kicked out of the game.

Preposterous statement: I think in Basketball if the ball goes off your hand and you point the other way and tell the ref you didn't touch it, YOU ARE A CHEATER, you should be banned from the game.

My point is cheating is cheating, you get caught you do the time. Then you move on.

The bottom line is its entertainment! the "roid-heads" entertained us, get over it.

You tell me how you would be able to get choked up when for 2-3 years you injected yourself and have signed 2 contracts for 1/2 a billion dollars.......I would get choked up just thinking about all that money I tricked people into giving me and so far no consequnce other than ridicule from the fans and media.....he could retire and buy his own island and never hear from anyone again.....ahh the life of a con artist!!!

I agree, sure he may be bothered by the negative remarks, but really? What does he care? He got his money, he is down in spring training, I don't think this really is going to affect him in the long term.

affect him in the long term--- you bet. Just wait until (if) he passes Ruth,Aaron and Bonds on the Hr list. It will fan up faster than a Micheal Phelps bong after practice.

Phelps has some fun like all of us,,, A-rod and the others flat out cheat and lie.

I'm shocked to learn A-Roid may have done Performance enhancing Drugs more than the one time he claims.

A lot of people in all sports are cheating. Makes it an easy decision for me, quit watching all of it and go fishing. Pro sports = praise the biggest loser. Unless they take the money away it will never change.

Pier,

It was probably his strength coach who told him it was lindseed oil or something like that to rub on his muscles or maybe he told him it was a super charged B 12 shot or maybe he no speaka de english, when asked! I love it when cheaters get caught and start the "blame game" on the river of D Nile! Get rid of them all I say and wipe the record books clean. Show the atheletes that chose the correct path that they are the ones rewarded, not the A Rods, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosas, Mark McGuires and Roger Clemens of the world. Now that would be a miracle!

Yep, love it when the athletes come out with the "ya I took it but I didn't know what it was.." Really? Someone just walks up to you and says shove this in a muscle or drink this and you just say ok? Then cry for sympathy saying you didn't know what it was or who gave it to you.

As Billary once said "it depends on what your definition of is is"

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st
