One dynamic quarterback from glory

Get him here to help teach T-jack for a year? Are you kidding me? You could give that kid ten years with Favre, Marino, Elway and Montana and you still come out with Junk. Two good games a year maybe and that's if all the cards fall right.

Watching and supposedly learning from the sidelines is overrated anyways. Aikman, both the Mannings, Montana, Roethlisberger among others never took an entire year off and look at the number of Super Bowl rings there. Big Ben took over for Maddox midseason, I doubt he learned much. The best QBs learn on the field. Not holding a clipboard.

But the best QB's have something to bring to the field!

Nuf said right there. I think free agency doesn't start until like the 27th, doesn't it??

How about Byron Leftwich??? He will be an unrestricted free agent in a couple of weeks. Probably not the best choice with his lightening fast release of the ball, but hadn't seen his name thrown in the mix yet.

Anyone on here really believe for even one second that the Vikes would bring in a QB the likes of Cassell or Brady? It just isn't going to happen.

I'm not saying Favre is going to be a saving grace, but he is the best option that the Vikes would truly consider.

40+ years of mediocrity with no end in sight.

Did you think a year ago the vikes would make the trade they did to get Jared Allen?? After how aggressive they were last year i would say anything is possible.

The field isn't the best place for tjack to learn. That's pretty obvious.

Tjack has nothing in common with the quarterbacks you mentioned. Brees, Cutler, Favre, Brady, Romo, Rogers(sorry)and Rivers all sat and learned for one or more years. Throwing a guy in there when he clearly isn't ready is a death sentence for quarterbacks. Vince Young, David Carr,Ryan Leaf, Alex Smith come to mind. Tjack is/was a project that, to me anyway, has failed miserably. We reached for him in the draft and both he and chilly have been underwhelming, to say the least.

I guess I've given up on tjack and am down for us to put anybody on the field but him.

For the record the whole Favre deal wouldn't be my first option.

Not much out there in free agency QB wise. Mostly guys who are stop gap players. No quick fix quarterbacks out there.

I also don't think there is a QB we can draft and immediately start.

Hopefully tjack can figure it out this offseason. I have my doubts, but hey, I've been wrong before.

Word our of Cleveland is that Derek Anderson is due a huge roster bonus here at the start of free agency and that the team has already given the reins to Brady Quin for next season.....

Last year he completed only 50% of his passes with a QB Rating of 66.5. Not exactly "dynamic" in my book.

Oh, I know. He brings nothing to the table, and the guys I mentioned have talent. Look, Jackson was a Div II QB, I know it, you know it, we all know it. He says he transferred because he wasn't going to play. After watching him, I can see why.

You are talking about Derek Anderson, right? 99% of his problems last season were in direct effect with the fact that Braylon Edwards forgot how to catch the ball between his Pro Bowl season and last year. Aside from Edwards, Winslows the only other decent option. I feel bad for any QB that has a WR that can't catch and a tight end as his 2 options. Not destined to put up great numbers in that scenario.

Zam you hit the nail on the head, Not only that when ISN'T Winslow injured at some point and time during a season?? No running game don't help any either. I will take Derek in a heartbeat over T-jack and roll that way. Draft another qb while we are at it, and a right guard and lets play!

Yep, Andersons a huge upgrade from Gus and TJack. Weird saying this now, but Anderson was drafted ahead of Warner this last year in our fantasy draft.

If we could get Anderson for a mid round pick I think it would be worth a shot. At least there would be a good competition in camp. Anderson, at worst, would be able to manage the game better than tjack.

WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING TO RESOLVE THE QUARTERBACK SITUATION!

Anderson got shafted...I watched him make tons of nice plays and throw the deep ball just for the wr's to drop most of them..alot of them were in the endzone...Anderson has one of the bigger arms for qb's in the league.

The team was playing like dung and they have a qb in the wings that cleveland wants to make love with.

Anderson is not that great. He's serviceable but so is T-Jack and he certainly not a huge upgrade.

We need someone better and with a little savvy. If we fix the O-line Hasselbeck might be a good option.

Saying Anderson is pro-bowl material is QUITE a leap. He is an interesting option though, and I would welcome him in Purple anyday. Hasselback is used goods and I'd much rather stay with TJack or give Booty a shot before we waste any draft picks etc... on guys like this.

I said it in another post, and it is true- when his top reciever Edwards was catching the ball he was one of the best QBs in the NFL. Edwards somehow turned into Troy Williamson this past season and dropped 3/4ths of the balls thrown to him. He is young has a great arm and is one of the better options out there right now. So no, not QUITE a leap, it is the truth.

Kerry Collins, Hasselback, Anderson, I think would all be a good fit here. All should be able to be had for middle round picks, and wont cost the team its future if it doesnt work out(Cassel). Anyone of them would be a good starter, or a great backup if T-Jack somehow has a great preseason. I think if the Vikes would have went after Derek Anderson last year we could have been playing the Steelers this year for the big game.

i think anderson is the best option for the team for whats out there...i wouldn't mind hasselbeck though either...either one of those i'd be happy forsure.

best thing about anderson is he's still young at the age of 25 and he's 6'6 with a big arm and he won't break the bank....he had a nice 07 season with 3800 yards and 29 td's.

i think playing qb for the vikes would be a little easier then playing qb for the browns....their running game is nonexistent and they play balt and pitt twice a year.

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
