Guys I know it is a little early to be asking this but I am going to do it anyhow. What are the accesses like coming out of the Warroad Public access or using Babbler's road out of Rockey Pt.? Are they getting pretty bad or are that holding up OK? What is that breaker looking like out just out of Warroad? I am planing a trip up there April 4&5 and I am hoping that there will still be a spot to get out and chase some eyes or else some tip ups. I know that the ice over by the Rainy sound bad but usually the ice over by Warroad stays better longer doesn't it?
------------------
Grip it and Rip it
IFFWALLEYES

I was Up Sat. at Warroad Public.
After seeing one pickup drop a front and driving about a mile to find a questionable spot to get off. I'm not going back. A little harry. I think 4wheelers would be fine though. We fished shallow for northern. A lot of guys did good out further in the deeps and around the islands. I would advise no pickups anymore... unless it can float.
We could sit and listen to the water seepionh through the ice. Which by the way is almost rotten.
decoy
PS Fishing for us has been better.

Was up Tues& Wed and fished out of Babbler's road by Gull Rock area, the heaves are very active and moving alot. The ice was quite chunky while drilling, still lots of ice but starting to rot. We drove a p/u out along with many others, but Richard came out on Wed and said that from there on he was only recommending atv's or snowcats, the heaves are too active to keep the belts in place. The fishing was a little slow, with lots of samll ones but a few nice fish mixed in. Looks like snowcats would be the better choice for crossing cracks, the ones we watched, snowcats could cross the gap but the wheelers would run long distances to get across.
Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter. Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th. I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th. Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt. Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
