Hit a local lake today with Eyeguy, Tom S and Monstermoose. We drilled a ton of holes across one whole shoreline in search of active panfish.  I didn't have my phone with, hopefully some of the other guys can add some photos

Nice ones guys.

I hit Horseshoe to chase some midday kitties for few hours.  Schools were really moving and I had to bore a pile of holes to stay on top of them.  A few hours of hide and seek.  Ended up with 10 and a couple party crappies. Met up with Icehawk and settled in on a panfish spot.  Got a few for the pan but nothing spectacular although the company was good.

 

The spot that the trailer went through by the Meth hole has a bunch of branches sticking out of it right now.  Give it a wide berth.

Nice fish there Rick. We finally found enough time to get my better half out on the ice for a morning at least. Went out to Pearl for a few hours. She was able to haul in a decent (12") crappie right after we got set up. Pulled some small sunnies the rest of the morning

My weekend report:

Was in Ottertail County for non-fishing reasons, but I went out Sunday looking for some monster gills in the sideways snow.  100 holes later and nothing to show for it :(.  Oh well, glad I was fishing.

Monday I went to the Chain for some midday cats, and once I had my fill of cats my friend and I went out searching for some gills.  I guess I didn't need to be in Ottertail County to find some big gills cause we ended up catching a pile of nice gills the rest of the afternoon.  We each kept a few mid size gills for a meal and let a bunch of big ones go.  Biggest went 9.5".

Hopefully I'll be out looking for some big crappies tomorrow after work.

Had planned to take the day off from fishing....but got a call from an old friend early this morning...... Off we went to find some fish. I made a quick decision being we only had a limited amount of time, this was to hit a local lake that has been good to me a couple times this winter.. We started off drilling a series of holes on a shallow inside turn off of the main lake basin. We popped a bunch holes from 6-15ft deep, then looked for life. It fidn't take too long to connect on the first fish. Soon we had a pattern figured out, fish were holding tight to the remaining weed growth in our shallowest sets of holes. We picked off most of the active fish in this spot before calling it a day. Most of our best fish came off a 4mm tungsten jig tipped with several spikes. Tried a few plastics, got some on them but not near as fast as meat was producing. Here are my daily sunfish pics several between 9-9.5 in, everything went back into the lake....as usual

Well I failed to get into a descent crappie bite on the chain tonight but did land a big smallie which made the trip worthwhile.....and the fact that I was fishing :).

Pinksinko the chain can be humbling at times.  There are a few nice smallies still roaming out there and they sure do put up a fight!  If you ever want company fishing out there throw me a pm. If I'm open Ill join you .

Hit one of our lical lakes with the gf this afternoon. Boy, it sure was a windy one today  had to find a lake with a somewhat protected shoreline so we didn't blow away...lol. Found some nice green weeds in the 5-6ft range and started looking for signs of life. It took a few holes and lots of perch caugt before we landed in the right area. The sunfish and crappies were less than aggresive and needed a fair amount of coaxing to get them to bite. It was far from a good day, but we got fish Small, 3mm tungsten jigs tipped with a few larve was about the only thing I could get fish on.

Nice outcome Rick on a more than not perfect day. Man it was windy!!!!  Good job by you two downsizeing to topside a few fish under tough conditions. Me I opted to head in to St Cloud to restock with some more fiskas  It was nice and cozy browseing in Scheels and I didn't have to worry about parasailing  Wow is Mills Fleet picked over the racks are just about empty,

Beaut of a day out there today. Slushy driving on and off with the car.  Teamed up with Rick G to try and get a 10 incher for a picture.  Came close with a dandy 9 3/4 incher.  Still swimming and eating and growing into a 10. Bite was really slow today but we were able to manage some nice fish.

Fishing wasn't the best....but with a little work we landed on a few.    Royce scored biggest gill,  likley biggest crappie and smallest perch. Nice job on the cpr with that big female gill, she might be a 10incher by next winter

Made it out Sat morning on a lake in the area. Ice was wet, sloppy and slick with no more snow. When we were leaving, I noticed the anchors of my shelter were all pulling out on their own as the ice was melting.. Little branches and leaves that were blown onto the ice were starting to slightly melt into the ice. Saw some dead fish that floated up under the ice too which was interesting. Still 14" of ice where I was at, but it was fairly easy to drill through. Trucks were coming out in full force nonetheless. Saw some younger guys in a grey Subaru making donuts and trying to drive fast all over the lake. They should be more considerate of the folks who were out on the lake with their kiddos. I was one of them. Safety was definitely not on their minds. My boy got into some nice perch though  Took some home and made perch fingers and fries!!

I had an oddball day off yesterday so I was forced to go fish. It was really nice out and caught plenty of fish. I was about 45 minutes south of town and the ice there was pretty good. I along with most others walked out but it would have been fine to drive out on. Everything was froze solid.  We're not gaining ice but it's doesn't seem to be going very fast either. Just wear your spikes.

Anyone know where the fish are biting? Went south of St.Cloud on Monday and caought notjhing. They were down there thick but nothing just a few bites. Anything helps. Thanks.
