Rumor has it that two pickups went through the ice in 4-mile bay last night and today. I also heard the post-pounder went through the river at Wheeler's Point.
Is any of this true? Can somebody confirm or refute this info?
Scoot

Scoot,
I've heard it too, but just on some posts around FM. I would like to confirm this too, as I might be up Thursday to LOW.
------------------
Hemlock
"Throw'm back"

One trucks wheels punched into the ice and
the vehicle hung up on the frame.
The other was a big dually and the front
end fell broke thru and the water was up
to the windshield.
Both vehicles were off the road. One was
trying to cross the breaker on the snocat
trail (???????????????????????????????)
The other was over where several people
were fishing, they didnt stay fishing
very long.
The ice is going bad real fast. I heard today that Adrians was closing the road and
several were calling it a season.
Call ahead before you make the trip and talk
to your resorters.
------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio
[This message has been edited by curt quesnell (edited 03-25-2003).]

with all due respect Curt we were fishing in four mile a couple hundred yards away when the dually went through and he was on the road, at least the road the resort told us to follow. The spot where he went through was a spot that had alot of water on it the couple of days before. The water was gone by the time he went through but it must have weakened it enough to be unstable. See road condition reports in the post below also. We also happen to talk to the guy who went across the breaker while we were getting bait. He said it was a "bad decision" to go on the old road and try to cross the breaker, you think?? But I will tell you we were definitely one of the people who did not hang around very long after that wink.gif
[This message has been edited by rocky (edited 03-24-2003).]

There is no old road. I dont know who told
you what. Adrians Road has been the same
all winter.
I jump on people for spreading mis-information and if I did that I must chew
myself out.
The guides at Riverbend said the guy was
on the snowcat trail trying to bust thru
the breaker. You dont have to contend with
breakers on Adrians Road anywhere.
BUT, I didnt see it so I cant swear to it.
Rocky, thanks for the info.....What were you
fishing for in the bay? Jacks or Walleyes
and how was fishing?

------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

Im back with more info.
The dually is still in the bay as of this
morning after going thru on SUNDAY. They
have hired someone to come up from Bemidji
to try to get it out.
It is not on the road. It had been driving
all over the bay for quite a while. The
vehicle came out of Bostic Creek and wasnt
following any kind of common sense.
I want everyone to know this because maybe
it will help someone else realise that you
stay ON THE ROAD if you are not familiar with
the area.
I called Glen Voytilla at RiverBend Resort
this morning to double check my earlier
info.
Be careful......
If not life threatening its a big mess to
try to get your equipment out of the lake.
........or bay

------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio
[This message has been edited by curt quesnell (edited 03-25-2003).]

I was out on Sat. and there was def an old road and a newer one that was marked with orange markers(in begining portion of four-mile). The old road was pretty much just a river almost and the newer path was off to the side. They also had to move the road over a bit crossing pine. The ice on the river in front of Roverview was honeycombed all the way through on Sunday. About 30 seconds to get through 3 feet.

Curt
Its sounds like the road info that I was told about was wrong. This was my only trip up there so I was unaware that the road had not changed and therefore no old road. I was just trying to help based on what I saw and what I heard. I assumed what they told me was correct being it is their road. we fished in the bay and although we seen couple of nice northerns caught we did not catch any ourselves. good luck and be safe

On Thursday night when we left the lake we went to the right as soon as we came back over Pine Island and skirted the pressure ridge that we were crossing in late Feb. This was almost a 3 mile detour back to Wheelers point. On Friday night we went East(left) as soon as we came back over the island and followed Pine to the Bomber trial and then followed that to Wheelers point. there was definitley a lot of water standing in Adrians original road in 4 miles bay. Well, this is getting confusing isnt it.
I just got off the phone again with Glen
at Riverbend. The truck hasnt moved and
they have been working on it most of the
day. The ice is disappearing quick.
There IS an old road that Adrians used
in the middle of winter that would have
had water standing in it over the weekend.
(Thanks to everyone who was acurate about
that). The new/old road that was back in
use was marked real well.
Whats done is done, I hope the guy gets
his truck out before things get worse.

------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

thanks for giving us the correct update. curt,Your story is now in tune with the story adrians told us and in tune with what we eyewitnessed. We know about the spot he went through because we went there to see if he needed any help, he fell through where a deep water hole was that people were going around earlier in the weekend. Bottom line is nobody got hurt and we all learned a valuable lesson. keep up the good work on fishing mn and good luck fishing

According to a couple of locals I spoke with yesterday, another one went through the bay yesterday too.
Sounds like a dang good time to "give up the ghost" as far as driving a vehicle on the ice.
Scoot

I don't think they have fixed much

More playas bite the dust. Probably at least 5 more by the sounds of the reports. Gotta be at least the many so I can be out too!

Have faith. You can see progress and ice depth from previous years on the Eagle Docks FB page. They said 16 inches a day or so ago. A few years back they had 16 inches only a week before official ice out. 60s to even 70s next weekend. It will be gone before opener. I'm planning on docks and lifts next weekend, but I am in a small protected bay that goes out pretty early.

We need optimism right now. The small bays haven't even opened up yet, which is typically two weeks before the big bays lose their ice. The forecast is in our favor though and I see that it's windy today, also a great sign.

Go to the DMV, see if there's a serial number on it. They should be able to title it

I moved my blind right into the middle of the field after I left this morning. It sticks out like a sore thumb on the landscape. A friend advised me to try this. We'll see if it works later. I hate the way it looks without blending in, but I have to try something else.

For a long time I've been getting pop-ups and error pages where I have to back page. I just thought it was the price of playing in the old sand lot! 🤔
