Disapointing.... I think its safe to say a Broke down Crede will not come close to the platoon numbers the Twins 3bs had last year.

Oh well....like Windy says it aint my money so go ahead and WASTE IT!

At least its only 1 year!

I was against this at the beginning, but now am in favor. I would rather pay him for one year than pay Rondell White for 2 like we did. At least they are using their heads sigining to 1 year deals now.

its an incentive laden deal. great deal for the price. Joe Crede is a gold glove caliber defensive player. if he only plays 80 games thats still 80 games of not having brian "buckner" buscher out there.

the real travesty was giving punto 2/8 mill when orlando hudson signed for 3.4 base with the dodgers.

its absolutely an upgrade. buscher/harris platoon is the joke of MLB 3b situations.

hes an upgrade for sure. But he is still an average at best ball player(look up his career stats). He will help if he can stay healthy. Fantasy wise.... I cant believe some idiot in a league that im in actually picked this guy up and put him on his team today.

I hope Crede works out, but I'll still be the pres of the Buscher fan club, as sid would say Mark my words.... grin

the problem with buscher he dosen't hit for any power, which he should for his size. the twins needed a 3B that can hit the dingers and drive in some runs, which they hopefully got with crede. at least we have some depth at 3B now.

Crede will be good for the other hitters in our line-up as well. Pitchers have been throwing around Morneau for awhile now and maybe his presence in the line-up will help him out a little. Crede's power #'s are not huge but they do need to be respected. I expect him to have a big year being his contract is so incentive laden. Wish more contracts were structured this way...it would be good for the game. Nice pick-up Twins!!

Nice to hear!!! Twins never go for the big names or power hitters. Crede can play the field and that's what the Twins look for first. HE's a better hitter than anything else they could throw out there with his glove. Saves a player for some other posistion. I like the pick-up-- plus he will play 18-19 times agst his old team, if healthy.

Yopaulypinkfloyd,

I just listened to Sid this morning and he thought it was a GREAT signing. I will have to agree with him. Even if he only puts up his carear average for number he is still ahead of the platoon guys we had and like Zepman said it will make pitches actually pitch to Mauer, Morneau, and other twins hitters cause he can knock them in.

This is very painful, especially to see him sign with the Twins. Anyone other than the Twins........

He is my son's, and always will be, favorite player. See the picture to the left.

He just asked me if Joe is still our friend.

NOW MY LIL JIMMY TURNED INTO A TWIN FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Delighted they picked up Crede, now let's hope for Cruz too.

This is one of those things. Smith waited, & waited, & waited, to try to get the deals he wanted. Playing chicken with the market is always a gamble. If it works out (seems like it has this year) you're a genius. If it doesn't you end up with nothing, & you're a moron.

Guess I wouldn't want to play poker with Mr. Smith.

A big welcome to Jim's son to the Twins fan club. It is good to get someone on the good side, especially when they come from the dark side.

The Twins are always fun to watch and with this signing and hopefully another pitching change this is going to be a great season. I just love it when they nickle-dime all the big city teams with the big old payroles.

If Crede stays healthy this will be a great signing for the Twins. Looking at the Twins batting line up just looks so much better with his name on it. I am again excited for the season to start. Go Twins!!

I do not want to call you stupy Pier, but that is silly statement. Crede is a much better player than the "platoon" is. He actually plays defense over there too.

Also, how can you call that wasting money when he is making less than Punto guaranteed. Looks to me like this is a post meant to stir the pot.

Punto

career 252BA .319 OBP

Crede

Career .257BA (thats depressing) .306 OBP

defense?

Punto career 976 fielding %

Crede career 963 fielding %

Comparing power numbers between Punto and Crede is like comparing kids in school knocked out by the schools bully and the schools wimp. One guys huge and the other guy- not so much. We got them both, and I like both over Harris and Buscher.

They are two different players and you can't and shouldn't compare stats on them. The fact of the matter is Crede is the better player and is exactly what the team needs. He fills in the middle of the order with some right handed power and he will make it harder to pitch around Morneau. If Cuddyer comes around and rebounds we will have a nice left, right, left, right, left combination in the middle of the order that will cause issues with other teams bullpens. Crede just doesn't bring his stats he completely changes the makeup of this lineup. I am a fan of Punto's but Crede means so much more to this lineup than Punto, Buscher, Harris or anyone else that could play 3B.

I see the order shaking out like this:

Span

Cassilla

Mauer

Crede

Morneau

Cuddyer

Kubel

Punto

Gomez

4-7 could really go in any order and I would't be shocked if Mauer opened the season batting 2nd.

Fishy, I take it you think Young will be moved. I think that will happen or Kubel does. But we will get more for Young.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!

I had a guy hit me with a lightly used 1969 BAR, he wanted $1650 with an older Leupold scope. More than I think they are worth, I made an offer, he declined end of story.   You know if you look at the old brochures, a grade II BAR sold for $250 in the late 60s, $1650 would be a good return on your investment.    Why would anybody want a 50 year old gun, they are heavy, have wood stocks, and blued metal.  I guess mainly to keep their gun safes glued to the floor. lol   You can probably buy a stainless rifle that you never have to clean, with a synthetic stock you never have to refinish, is as light as a feather, and for half as much money, perfect.   I'm too old for a youth gun, although I've shrunk enough that it would probably fit. lol   No Ruger 10/44s.   Jim
