Labor Day weekend with the kids on the Minnesota near Mankato.

My first sturgeon and a couple of cats. Great day to be on the river. Still high but manageable however the landing was muddy

Finally got out fishing, been a busy summer at work. Spent Saturday and today in the Mankato area. Amazing to show up at a boat ramp on Labor Day weekend and be the only person at the launch! Caught a

Dtro was watching it and I know he said it went back down a few degrees. I believe it was 54 in the main channel.

56-57 tonight. Few small channels and one real nice plumper caught by dachise.

Only thing I got to unhook was a gar frown

No not those pesky Gar! Man I hate those bait thieves.

Cool fish nonetheless.

If you roll with 8-10 foot rods to the sky while on plane, watch yourself going upstream from Belle Plaine. There is a a nice cable that came off one of the big power lines that is now hanging from bank to bank. I called Scott county last night so hopefully its taken care of before too many guys have to cross under it heading into the sun.

We've got 55 degrees out here right now, and small channels have been willing to bite. Cut creek chub has been the bait of choice 2nite. Lost one that felt pretty good about 20 minutes after we got started today. eek

I caught some nice white bass in the Carver/Chaska area this last weekend. I didn't catch many, but they were very good size...biggest one 16" and maybe pushing two pounds...

Another on the water report-

Similar results as yesterday so far, just small channels. The top couple were at the 23" & 24" mark. Creek chub has out produced shad again. Gonna stick it out another hour or two and see what happens. Hopefully an entry worthy fish will show up here soon.

Yes, Dtro hooked up with a flattie, the first of the season. Seemed the cut bait got hit mich more than my live creek chub.

WWG and I are waiting for the larger ones to feed so we were skunked last evening.

Got out last night @ Black Dog....1st time out on the river this year and despite not boating anything it was a great evening. Fished from 6-10:30. Wind started to calm down around 8:15. Water temps. floated between 55-57 degrees in the main channel. A good amount of debris in the water but nothing real big. We had a few runs but couldn't connect. This was my first trip with the Surge Trophy and boy that rod is awesome! The tip is nice and sensitive with a stocky backbone...love the large diameter cork handle as well. I hope to make it out a few more times this week/weekend to get the skunk out of the boat. Nice work btw on the first flat dtro!

Yeah, that's precisely why I have been skunked the last 4 outings I've been on...no sense in catching anything under 50 lbs, I figure wink

One can make excuses, and I like that one, but the simple fact is its early in the season. Doesn't take much head scratching to figure out why a flathead won't bite right now.

I've got my eye on my Lilacs. Got 4 of them in the yard, one should be ready to bloom soon!

It may be early but they are starting to feed. One never knows when the big one will hit.

One needs to be out for that opportunity.

Its always nice to just get out and a fish is the bonus.

There are guys on Facebook Market place selling buckets of Smelt right now.  One said "Fresh from Duluth"

I was able to hit the chain on Saturday and cruised around a bit to see if I could find what the walleye were doing. Appears they should be spawning and did find what I think were a couple females just based on the location I found them.    50° on the river and saw as low as 47° on the main lake.

I was out 4 different mornings.  Very difficult hunt.  I never saw a Tom.  Usually when we go out we can get the Toms to gobble to at least let us know where they are roosting but this year they wouldn't gobble to a call at all.  Most wouldn't gobble until almost shooting hour and if they did gobble it was on there own.  I didn't really want to hunt season A but I had to because of work.  I think the cold weather must of had something to do with it.

And just a few days later, I got my first 10inch bluegill of the season.  Same body of water Royce got his from, but clearly a different shaped hen bluegill. As always, trophy size fish get released😁   VID_20210418_110303001~2.mp4

First outing this spring turned out fairly successful.  Not consistent action yet but enough to stay interested.  Nothing bigger than 12 inches though.  All were released fully alive to complete the reproductive process.

Last summer while doing a surgery recovery, i got into watch the canal harbor cams of Duluth. Not sure what is going on but at night there has been several people dropping what could be nets or a trap over the side of the wall.  Would like to know if these guys are catching smelt or bait?

I probably won’t turkey hunt this spring - working way too much!  This morning before heading out I had multiple birds gobbling from the area I got mine last year. Probably would’ve been an easy score.
