Thanks for the advise and helped you guys gave me. I headed up to low this last weekend and had a great time. The fishing was a little slow. We caught 6 fish the biggest being 16 lbs. We did miss about 6 flags, this was a bit frustrating. I used the quikset rigs, as described on the site, but still couldn't seal the deal. I was wondering, how long should I let the fish run before grabbing the line?

Does anyone ever chase the pike in early spring with a boat? Is it even possible? Will the fish still be active at first ice out?

The Pikes remain active and myself and lots of others fish them on openwater as soon as the ice goes. Lots of folks fish the docks and jetty right there in Warroad, or take a boat out there. 4-mile and Zippel bays see openwater activety as well. Zippel bay resort also holds a C&R Pike tournement the last weekend in April which I also fish.
Fisky

I always assumed they were inactive, but it is obvious I am wrong. Do the fish hit lures or bait? I have heard of guys fishing dead bait in canada early because they say the fish don't hit lures.

The big ones are kinda lazy still and don't like to chase lures, but the little ones will. Deadbait right on the bottom for me till the water warms anyways.
Fisky

Might been the scenario where everything came together, but we managed most of our Jacks on jigging rods!
Talk about a fight!!!!!
Jim W
