We were out on the northeast side on Friday out of Fishers. Tried the 20' sand not much there. Tried 25' nothing doing. Proceeded up to Carlsona. The wind completely quit so we pounded the edge of the break with the trolling motor and picked up 9 with 3 in the box. The rest were 20 to 25 inch. Most on the edge in 18'.The bite was short lived getting all in about an hour around noon. Picked up another for the box down at Agate Bay Reef in 20' and one dink let go to fight another day.

I've had it hit or miss for me since Wednesday. Thursday I had my best two hours of spinner fishing EVER. Couldn't get it down fast enough. Yesterday was decent but nothing special. Today I got one fish. Just one.

From what I've heard, the bite's been better in the morning. I guess I shouldn't have slept in. smile

i saw prob the best mille lacs preformance to date in friday. 3 guys started in the morning i left the lake at 2pm they were still fishing. atleast 60fish were boated that i saw and thats no talk either. i did talk to them and asked what they had going that i didnt.. same tackle same snells same bait jus not the same luck or skill one of the 2... so if you 3 guys read this forum... well done you put on a clinic for all to see! i would of thought i had a good day with roughly 20 until i saw that boat. they were better than a gill net. maybe they were using those square hooks?

Went out of Cove and fished the gravel all day. Boated 10 eyes the biggest was 26" the smallest was a 9" baby. We were able to keep 4 fish. Saw others doing about as well as us out there.

My buddy wiped out his prop and took a big chunk out of his skeg on the rocks heading out of Cove. He knew better, but wasn't paying attention to the buoys. I broke the tip off a favorite one year old rod. Fishing can be expensive.

Went out solo fishing from the east side Friday afternoon for a couple hours and boated more than a dozen ranging mostly from 16 to 27 inches. Most of them were in the mid 20s. I found most of the fish in 26 to 32 feet. I had luck with both vertical jigging a leech on a 1/16th oz chartreuse jig and rigging a 1 oz rock runner with a 72 inch snell pulling a yellow hook with a yellow bead at .5mph. Most of the fish were nearby bug hatch clouds showing up on the graph.

Ditto! We had pretty much the same experience yesterday (minus The rock runner).

Did catch one 22" eye that was dark brown, black eyes(without the marble) beat up

And smelled like a dead fish. Really weird!

fished yesterday with the brother in law form 7-3:30. Managed to catch 34 fish with nearly a 50/50 split of keepers (14"-16 1/2") to slot fish. We fished a rock to mud transition and just bobbered all day. the fish came in waves, keepers than big fish then dead time (usually 20min at a time)than back the keeper to the big fish ect... all day long.

I did notice alot of the mid 20's fish are very skinny again this year. I also noticed some very brown off colored fish as well(not stinky though).

Nice morning out there today, hit the water bout 7 fished till about 12:30, boated 24 eyes for the 3 of us, 4 keepers, 2 dinks, rest slot fish from 17.5 to 25.75. Went out of the access north of the casino, only moved twice, bobbers were the hot ticket.

went out Sunday from 6am to 1:30pm out on the mud pulling lindy's with leeches....found fish on the flat and off the flat anywhere from 26 to 34ft of water. The fish seemed to be biting as we caught 16 and kept 4. The size of the fish ranged from 14" to 24.5"....some were skinny and some were healthy looking some looked like walleyes and others looked like some real ugly walleyes all beat up and brown. Great day good company and fun fishing!!!

Jay, Saturday we fished a small "family tournment". Nobody did very well with crawlers, caught some, but leeches were far and away the bait of choice. Bobbers and jigging seemed the best, with rigging working well also. Fish are just about everywhere. We prefished friday night and caught keeper and slot fish at depths ranging from 15 ft in St. Albans bay to the 25 ft tops of the flats and many on the bottom of the flats in 33 ft.

I went out of Fishers on Saturday. I started out in 22' to 24' in the sand/rock transition. I caught 6 in about 1 1/2 hours. One 16" for the box and the rest were too big. There were quite a few boats in the area, so I headed West and fished the mud flats. The one that I caught most of my fish off of topped out at 22' and dropped off to 33'. I found fish both on top and on the break. However, the box fish that I caught came from off of the edge. I use 6# Vanish line with a 8' leader and a charturuse bead and hook. I caught 25 for the day and was able to keep a nice limit.

Good Luck!

Fished last night. 4 pm to 9pm. Caught 16 fish, able to keep 4 of them. Biggest fish was 25". Leeches on 7' leaders were the best in 28-31 feet of water. My dad used leeches and outfished me considerably until i switched from crawlers to leeches.

I took my two oldest boys out rigging leeches yesterday. They had never lindy rigged before so I was unsure how it would turn out. It was an absolute blast! In all we caught 20 fish. The largest were 25" fish. The boys did ALL the work themself. I "taught" them how to detect bottom, feel the bite, feed the fish and they were catching them in no time. My 6 year old caught 2 24" himself. Only ended up with 2 keepers. One really wasnt a keeper (too small) but since it was gut hooked it made the trip home.

Got out with my non-fishing buddy for a few hours yesterday, mid morning to 2 pm. Fished just outside Waukon Bay in 20', got a 25" and 23" in 20' of water over sand/gravel with spinner harnesses. After that started throwing hardware for a bit in 8' in the bay and actually saw quite a few large slot walleyes, had 1 chase a shad rap. Switched to slip bobbers when he got too drunk to fish and got another 23" 'eye that way in only 8' water and sparse cabbage.

Might have had a few others, but I was doing quite a bit of teaching and babysitting.

Fished Sunday the 3rd. Action was consistent. Slot was frustrating (what a groundbreakery eh?)

There are plenty of big boys...fish them while you can.

We did OK tonight. Got four keeper fish (amazingly, the smallest was 16''), but we only got nine for the two of us. Couldn't find a consistent bite...one here, one there, but no real numbers. Biggest was only 22'', with a few so small only a hungry man would fillet them.

Fantastic bite last night on the flats. We picked up 14 fish the last hour alone. 1 keeper only but sure was fun catching the big ones. Biggest last night was 28 inches. Hope the wind stays down so we can get back out tonight

Walked today and yesterday, flushed 9, shot at two and got two. Hopefully next year I'll have a dog to hunt with. Still warm up here, skim of ice on ponds. Weather has been nice. Hopefully walk a bit more the next few weeks. Been pretty cautious walking for birds to not interfere with deer hunters. There sure are not the deer hunters there used to be

On the South Shore...  The focus for many this week is the ongoing deer hunting season which is a big tradition in these parts, even for avid walleye anglers.  There were some that either already harvested their deer or are more into catching fall walleyes than hunting.     Those that are fishing are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and excellent walleye and sauger bite that is happening across the lake.  Cold weather is in the forecast in the upcoming days and weeks so that is also getting many excited. The best depths on the south end of LOW are 22-28 feet of water.     Vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is catching most of the walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch.  Depending upon where on the lake you are fishing, some slots and big trophies are in the mix as well, but most reports are talking about good numbers of eaters.    Jumbo perch are coming in good numbers this fall which will serve ice anglers well.  Watch out for an occasional pike or even lake sturgeon mixed in with the walleyes.      There are good numbers of walleyes and saugers across the south shore which is setting up nicely for early ice.   On the Rainy River...  There continues to be good numbers of shiners in the river, and consequently, there are good walleyes in the river as well.     Walleyes along with saugers, pike and some sturgeon are coming in up and down the river.  Most walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water in various stretches of the river.   Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners is the key. Some anglers are also still slow trolling crankbaits upstream to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing remains strong.  The catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open into the spring when it changes to the "keep season" on April 24th. Up at the NW Angle...  As temps are getting colder, most are in the woods hunting and not fall fishing, however, for those who bundle up, fishing continues to be excellent.     A nice mixed bag with walleyes, saugers, perch, pike and crappies being caught. Very good muskie fishing with the colder water temps and shorter days.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Both casting and trolling is getting it done.

I hunt in the rifle zone so I don't have a need to use a shotgun to hunt deer, but I would be looking at this if there was ever a need to.   There could be state legislation introduced next summer that eliminates the shotgun zone completely.  It has bipartisan support.  Wisconsin removed theirs years ago and MN is usually later to follow.  They've tried to pass it more than once and it came up just short both times.  Probably just a matter of time.

      Screw that, here's whatch need!  😆   Power-Shok Rifled Slug 10 Gauge 766 Grain Grain Weight: 766 Shotshell Length: 3-1/2in / 89mm Muzzle Velocity: 1280

20 ga has become a real popular deer round in the last 5 or so years.  The rifled barrels are zinging those sabot slugs with rifle like accuracy out to 100 yards easily.  Some go so far as dialing in for a 200 yard shot but really, by 150 they’re falling off pretty low.   I have a single shot Ultraslug in 20 ga that shoots really well at 100 yards.  Most everyone I know that has bought a slug gun lately has gotten the Savage 220 in 20ga.  Problem can be finding the shells you want.
    • leech~~
My son always bugs me about getting a nice light over-under 20ga for grouse hunting.  I say Heck no, I'm getting a 3 1/2" 10ga so I can put as much lead in the air that I can!!     So, I'm keeping my 12ga.
    • 11-87
That’s almost exactly what I was thinking.  Have slug barrels for both   One for turkey and one for deer.      I have a 20ga mosseberg as well. (Combo came with the scope but never used.   I always liked the 12 better
    • leech~~
Wanderer is right on the money and covered it well.  I was wondering too if you had a slug barrel for one of your guns?  If so you could make that your slug gun with a scope, and the other your turkey gun with the Red dot.  As you can afford it.
    • Wanderer
Kinda depends on if you want magnification or quick target acquisition.   More magnification options and better accuracy with a scope.  You get what you pay for too so get comfortable with a budget for one.  Tasco and Bushnell work but I find they lose their zero easier, have low contrast and don’t gather light well in low light conditions.  That said, I’m still using one I haven’t replaced yet.  Vortex has been the hot brand for the past several years for bang for the buck.  Good products.  Nothing beats Swarovski though.  Huge dough for those.  Burris is another decent option.   There are some specific models for shotgun/slug hunting in the economy brands and bullet drop compensation (BDC) reticles.  Based on experience I’d recommend not falling for that marketing ploy.   Red dots are usually lower magnification and easier to get on target.  Reasonably accurate but don’t do well with definition, like searching the brush for your target.  I put a HAWKE red dot on a .22 for squirrels and it’s been good.  For turkey, that’s probably the route I’d go.     If your slug shots are normally not too far and too brushy, I’d think a red dot could work there too if you’re only buying 1 scope.  You’ll be better off dimming the reticle to the lowest setting you can easily use to not over shine the target and get a finer aim point.   If you don’t have a slug barrel, you might appreciate one of those.  I had a browning with a smoothbore slug barrel that shot Brenneke 2-3/4 inch well.  The 11-87 would well fitted with a cantelever rifled barrel.
