I have no idea what the ideal size is for tullibe because mine go directly back down the hole. Every one i caught seemed to be the same size, just a little wider than my 9" hole when they were sideways.

I fished up and down the sides of the flat and only caught the tulies in 32-34'

Was up at Twin Pines rented a 4hole shack and when I got there upgraded us to a 6hole which was cool.Shack was on the edge of 3 mile marked and camera saw a lot of perch plenty of little ones had to stay on the jig or the little one picked you clean.Went mobile during sunday after noon drilled a couple of holes in 34ft nothing happening and then the wind kicked up and was it howling at least 25 to 30.Bite was slow but the heated bathrooms on the ice for twin pine are nice.I would recommened them.Twin pines resort that is.

Went out during the day on Saturday. We ended up getting a later start than I hoped with the dense fog. We sat around my house for an hour hoping it would clear some and just said "let's go". Even mid-morning on the lake was pretty foggy.

Many fish where caught, but none brought home. Could have kept some perch from mid-morning, but they where on the small side. 4-5 jumbos and I would have kept them for extra meat. I got one walleye around 11am. Right before and during sunset was the most positive for large bars on the LX-5, with one even biting pretty aggressive. Unfortunately I set the hook too early. The ones that do bite are biting very light.

It was not because of a lack in trying on Saturday. We started out from Appeldoorn's and headed north. Dang near road all the way the way to the north end. We got as far south Barnacles. Came back down on the westside and gave big flat (Fisher Flat), the boot, midget, and my own micro flat the work-over. North end, south end and east & west sides where checked and fished on each flat. The only area during day light hours that produced any life on the Marcum was the middle top/high areas of the flats. You went off the edge, no amount of jigging could get a bar to show up.

I am sure the bite was going good right in Sunset bay grinsmirk. It was fun to get out fishing though and we wanted to try some areas that we have not hit for a longtime.

It was very good to see Paul again. I wished I had caught up with him prior to heading out though. After talking to Paul when we got in, on the next trip I am going to tone down the flash on my jigs and not use any rattlers wink . I hope to be back up this weekend again. I know fish are feeding and once you get out their, you realize the huge/vast areas that have no fisherman on them. I am pumped to head back up again. smile

I have been going out of terrys and doing alright on perch and getting a limit of nice tullies each time out. Have had to sort through alot of small stuff but take your time reeling them in so they go back dowwn and a guy can have alot of fun. bring a rag as your hands will be wet and slimmy all the way to your elbows if there are biting good. the tullies love to hit it on the drop so I would raise it up and drop slowly with my finger on the line.my best luck came from 35 fow right near this cord N 46"14.393 W 93"41.370 I know that no one gives out cords here but I wont be back for tullies this year and its a big spot room for everyone.Have fun and remember reel slow this years dinks are next years jumbos.oh yea Terrys also has bait on site

Haha I went right to your cordinate yesterday morning because terry wasnt giving us any info on where fish were biting. we fished it from 630am till noon and had a blast with 75 tulibies and 30 perch! it was a blast we always had fish on our line. we only caught 2 jumbo's but still a fun day on the pond for how slow the bite is!

p.s. if your going up there anytime soon make sure to bring the shovel and sand as we got stuck off-roading when we hit a 2 foot snow drift. there really hard to see

With the great weather Saturday, I was able to get out and punch some holes looking for some Jumbos along deep transitions on the east side. In 4 hours I managed to keep 15 nice jumbos, u seem to catch about 8-10 little ones before you get a jumbo. Had about 30 holes drilled and I just kept moving around. Unfortunatley since Saturday the wind has been brutal to say the least, so I have not been out again. With the warmer weather this week the perch bite should only gert betterin the coming weeks.

Hi All! New here smile

Just got back from a 24 hour fish out of Terry's... we had a great time! We came home with 13 Tullies (all around 13-15"), 2 perch (one 11 incher, and a 9 incher) and 1 eye (16"). We let quite a few 'smaller' ones go. Fish were certainly still biting lightly. We admittingly missed a few bites, but did well for our first time up there. Corbin used the swedish pimple with a waxie the whole time and did awesome with it. I used a glowing 'eye' jig with a waxie and was outfished by Corbin; not by much though. We focused on using smaller jigs and waxies, the walleye was caught on the swedish pimple with a waxie. We did best when it was going down or coming up so we turned to slow jigs wayyyy up and then slowly back down, it worked the best. We were in 28-29 FOW. Interestingly enough, the larger perch was hitting the shiner that was down on the rattle at about 715am, it couldn't take it, dropped a waxie down and it was hooked. We bought a container of 100 waxies and we were glad we did. We did get quite a few 'baby' perch, but it was fun none the less! We decided to go up out of Terry's again next Mon and Tuesday, so hopefully the bite continues to get better.

We had a BLAST catching Tullie, such fighters! We ate 1 tonight (baked) and have 12 going to into the smoker tomorrow.

Hope that helps anyone else headed up! We will be watching for more updates before our trip next week, keep em coming! We have some pics to post up tomorrow.

We were out(terry's) in there 8 hole house yesterday and only got one small eye. Although the eyes didnt want to eat the perch and tullies did. We ice around 20 perch(only a couple jumbo's) and close to 30 tullies. Biggest tullie was around 19 inches. did manage to keep 13 for smoking.95% of our fish came between 8a.m(when we got there) and 12:30. Pretty slow for the next 6.5 hrs. Fish came up and looked but wouldnt eat. Tryed everything from small jigs to bigger rettle spons. Waxies and minnows(heads and hole). Still a fun day on the ice with some good friends

Eyeslayer20, Terry's has been great for us. We were so pleased that we are headed back up next week. Check my first post on page 63 for what we used. We were in a 4 hole house. Good Luck, post some pics for us!

DUCKJ - Our experience with camera's and walleye bites has not been good. We noticed once we pulled the camera bites picked up a few weeks ago. It's fun to watch and hard not to watch, but it might be a good way to increase the eye bite! Glad you got some Tullies, they are a blast to catch!

Heading out from Agate Bay for the weekend and am hoping to catch a few eyes. What's the recommended depth to throw the wheel house to start looking? Are fatheads on a hook on the bottom good enough or do they need some coaxing right now with something noisy? Any time of day patterns right now? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Walked today and yesterday, flushed 9, shot at two and got two. Hopefully next year I'll have a dog to hunt with. Still warm up here, skim of ice on ponds. Weather has been nice. Hopefully walk a bit more the next few weeks. Been pretty cautious walking for birds to not interfere with deer hunters. There sure are not the deer hunters there used to be

On the South Shore...  The focus for many this week is the ongoing deer hunting season which is a big tradition in these parts, even for avid walleye anglers.  There were some that either already harvested their deer or are more into catching fall walleyes than hunting.     Those that are fishing are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and excellent walleye and sauger bite that is happening across the lake.  Cold weather is in the forecast in the upcoming days and weeks so that is also getting many excited. The best depths on the south end of LOW are 22-28 feet of water.     Vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is catching most of the walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch.  Depending upon where on the lake you are fishing, some slots and big trophies are in the mix as well, but most reports are talking about good numbers of eaters.    Jumbo perch are coming in good numbers this fall which will serve ice anglers well.  Watch out for an occasional pike or even lake sturgeon mixed in with the walleyes.      There are good numbers of walleyes and saugers across the south shore which is setting up nicely for early ice.   On the Rainy River...  There continues to be good numbers of shiners in the river, and consequently, there are good walleyes in the river as well.     Walleyes along with saugers, pike and some sturgeon are coming in up and down the river.  Most walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water in various stretches of the river.   Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners is the key. Some anglers are also still slow trolling crankbaits upstream to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing remains strong.  The catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open into the spring when it changes to the "keep season" on April 24th. Up at the NW Angle...  As temps are getting colder, most are in the woods hunting and not fall fishing, however, for those who bundle up, fishing continues to be excellent.     A nice mixed bag with walleyes, saugers, perch, pike and crappies being caught. Very good muskie fishing with the colder water temps and shorter days.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Both casting and trolling is getting it done.

I hunt in the rifle zone so I don't have a need to use a shotgun to hunt deer, but I would be looking at this if there was ever a need to.   There could be state legislation introduced next summer that eliminates the shotgun zone completely.  It has bipartisan support.  Wisconsin removed theirs years ago and MN is usually later to follow.  They've tried to pass it more than once and it came up just short both times.  Probably just a matter of time.

      Oh, h e l l no!

      Screw that, here's whatch need!  😆   Power-Shok Rifled Slug 10 Gauge 766 Grain Grain Weight: 766 Shotshell Length: 3-1/2in / 89mm Muzzle Velocity: 1280
    • Wanderer
20 ga has become a real popular deer round in the last 5 or so years.  The rifled barrels are zinging those sabot slugs with rifle like accuracy out to 100 yards easily.  Some go so far as dialing in for a 200 yard shot but really, by 150 they’re falling off pretty low.   I have a single shot Ultraslug in 20 ga that shoots really well at 100 yards.  Most everyone I know that has bought a slug gun lately has gotten the Savage 220 in 20ga.  Problem can be finding the shells you want.
    • leech~~
My son always bugs me about getting a nice light over-under 20ga for grouse hunting.  I say Heck no, I'm getting a 3 1/2" 10ga so I can put as much lead in the air that I can!!     So, I'm keeping my 12ga.
    • 11-87
That’s almost exactly what I was thinking.  Have slug barrels for both   One for turkey and one for deer.      I have a 20ga mosseberg as well. (Combo came with the scope but never used.   I always liked the 12 better
    • leech~~
Wanderer is right on the money and covered it well.  I was wondering too if you had a slug barrel for one of your guns?  If so you could make that your slug gun with a scope, and the other your turkey gun with the Red dot.  As you can afford it.
    • Wanderer
Kinda depends on if you want magnification or quick target acquisition.   More magnification options and better accuracy with a scope.  You get what you pay for too so get comfortable with a budget for one.  Tasco and Bushnell work but I find they lose their zero easier, have low contrast and don’t gather light well in low light conditions.  That said, I’m still using one I haven’t replaced yet.  Vortex has been the hot brand for the past several years for bang for the buck.  Good products.  Nothing beats Swarovski though.  Huge dough for those.  Burris is another decent option.   There are some specific models for shotgun/slug hunting in the economy brands and bullet drop compensation (BDC) reticles.  Based on experience I’d recommend not falling for that marketing ploy.   Red dots are usually lower magnification and easier to get on target.  Reasonably accurate but don’t do well with definition, like searching the brush for your target.  I put a HAWKE red dot on a .22 for squirrels and it’s been good.  For turkey, that’s probably the route I’d go.     If your slug shots are normally not too far and too brushy, I’d think a red dot could work there too if you’re only buying 1 scope.  You’ll be better off dimming the reticle to the lowest setting you can easily use to not over shine the target and get a finer aim point.   If you don’t have a slug barrel, you might appreciate one of those.  I had a browning with a smoothbore slug barrel that shot Brenneke 2-3/4 inch well.  The 11-87 would well fitted with a cantelever rifled barrel.
