Gull Lake (South end) ice conditions

Recommended Posts

JConrad

My neighbor and I spent several hours Saturday afternoon on our ATV's checking ice conditions on the South end of Gull Lake. Area south and west of Squaw Point towards Wilson

Bay.

There is still quite a bit of slush in a number of areas. Seems like where you have deep snow there is still a good amount of slush underneath. The going is quite difficult away from the existing trails made by snowmobiles and the trails to where the fish houses are off to the southeast and north of Clumps point. Ice varied from 13 inches to about 18 inches in every place we checked. If you are not driving your vehicle on an existing trail the going is really difficult at best and be prepared to get stuck. We had chains on our ATV's and still had a difficult time in many areas.

You can get around with an ATV with chains or snowmobile pulling a portible fish house and fish most areas. More snow will really make things more difficult for trucks on the lake.

I have an area I would like to fish but do not feel like it's safe to drive my truck pulling my fish house to that area. It might not be possible given the conditions. What really concerns me is getting the fish house off the ice later in the season if we get more snow.

I hope this helps anyone considering fishing this area. Just be carefull and make sure you have a shovel with if you are driving a truck into this area.

I sure wish I had better news.... Be safe!!!

As many of the other dog owners told me the third hunting season is when it comes together for lots of dogs. Finn did much better today and he got to watch a veteran dog again. I am excited to keep getting finn out hunting

We got two ducks. We should had more but it was fun shooting. I need to keep my face on my stock. I had pass on many birds as another group moved in on top of us. I had 5 woodies locked up and I drew a bead and I saw the other guys faces. No shot as i would killed them or wounded them. They knew we there but did not seem to care.

I have a 2018 ice castle with the GS trailer frame. Are you supposed to drill holes to let water out of the tubes or do the new GS trailers have holes in them already? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
