I have been on a pretty good bite most of the winter, I have to get out and explore a little.

I was wondering if you were to pick a lake to explore, how do you go about it, I am not looking for the structure aspect, that is the fun part.

What I am looking for is how you decide where to go?

Do you look for a certain species to target(pannies, pike, walleye's), close proximetity for driving, reference from others.

Do you just go and end up where you end up.

i like otters idea. but if you were just to pick any random lake . it depends on what time of year it is and then go from some of the current patterns you have found lately. ect. ect.

the way i pick a lake is by lookin in the southern mn lake map book and since i mostly go after pannies and like to get away from crowds i first look for some smaller lakes then i look at the info on the lake (ie stocking info, gill and trap nets etc.) then i start takin apart the lake and lookin for my spots to try since many of the lakes i've never fished so i'm usually a run and gun till i find a solid spot don't be afraid to experiment and ask fellow FMers
