Jiffy Ice Auger Problem

Question

yamaharider

Hey I just bought a Jiffy Ice Auger 3hp Model 30. Its about 8 yrs old and it cuts thru ice great and runs good, theres only one problem I have with it and was wondering if anyone knows how I can solve the problem. As soon as I start my auger, the blade begins to turn. The auger itself does not open up wide, however the auger blade still turns and is kinda dangerous for I am not able to carry from hole to hole, I have to shut her off and then re-start her. Hoping someone has the answer to my problem thanks!

there should be an adjustment screw or two on the carb. One of them should adjust the idle, usually by unscrewing it a little bit maybe a half a turn you can adjust the idle speed. you want to slow it down a little bit so it does not engage and turn the auger. Sorry i could not be more specific, i have not made any adjustments on a jiffy. Someone will chime in with a more detailed description i'm sure.

as you look at the side of your carb you should see two screws on the bottom half of carb. the one closest to the carb is your idle fuel mixture screw, the one next to it is the high speed fuel mixture. right above these two you will see a 3rd screw this one is your idle speed screw. let engine warm up for a couple of minutes. this top screw turn counterclockwise this will slow down the idle speed. you want it set so the clutch just begins to turn. if it seems to bog down you will have to turn the idle mixture screw out or in until the engine starts to smooth out. hope this helps

Have to say it. I don't believe there is "A BEST" unit out there. Just about all of them will suit someone's needs depending on how you use them and what you expect from them. If funds are not a limitation I would recommend looking at the Garmin Ice units with Panoptix or now you can adapt Livescope to the ice. Lots of Panoptix videos out there, but Livescope is new to the ice and the open water videos are amazing. Love mine. Sold all my flashers, my LX 6 and Helix units. My opinion for what it's worth.

Yep I've been seeing it almost daily since Friday on the south end of the bay. Getting me excited! Time to winterize the lund. It was a good run again this year!

Omg @Parmer I totally forgot about the Zoom, tells ya' how far my mind is from ice season yet. I do use it, but not whole lot, usally for perch fishing. Most of my Walleye are caught shallow.

All I use is an fl8. I have had it like 16 years.  I guess I don't really believe in the zoom and all that stuff.  Think the fl8 reads fish pretty good.  And I hardly get any interference like my buddies, with there fancy Marcum's lol.

First fish today was a big fat grey 30 incher, so as a guide the pressure was off right away. Steady action spot locked jigging in 30 feet of water with frozen shiners. By noon we needed 1 Sauger and one Walleye. At 3pm we got a nice Walleye so we quit at 3:30 one Sauger short. It was still pretty windy this morning but from the SW so fishing wasnt too tough. Had to toss the anchor at 2:30 the 3 batteries in the Terrova were spent, thats how windy it was this morning. Here are the pics

NW is not good at Long Point(I dont know where it is good on this end of the lake.)  SW, WSW and S can blow pretty good without much damage.   Keep your fingers crossed and good luck

Hey thanks for the help anyfish2! Would you have a wild guess on how many acres the lake is?
    • ANYFISH2
Not exact on the Max depth.  Can on occasions, winterkill, although not often.   I have fished it numerous times as I know a couple home owners there.   There are are crappie, bluegill, bass, pike, and the lake owners stock some walleyes as well(they have permits to do so).

Anyone know anything about lake Camile near cushing, mn? Looks like a real small private lake. I'm just looking to find out max depth and if it holds any fish. Any info is appreciated!
