got out of kjs friday night around 8. sat in the perm all night with out a hit on bobbers and rattle reels. must of had 1 hit because when i reeled up the rattle reel there was no shiner. but anyways sat morning predrilled probaly 40 holes and got to fishing. was fishing in anywhere from 22 to 29 fow. ended up with my limit of nice 15 to 17 inch eaters. i was the only 1 hole hoping and i was the only one catching fish.didnt sleep in the sleeper sat night we stayed at eddys and went out at 6 yesterday. yesterday probaly predrilled 50 holes and started hole hopping again. caught my limit again.mobility was the key.no1 in the shack was catching anything but 4 inch perch. i was even getting some 10 to 12 inch perch. all fish that i caught were on green glow buckshots.we were out by spirit island probally 300 yds away. walleyes were biting super light.i use fireline crystal on my jigging rods and i could feel the lightest tick. the perch were biting harder.big fish for the trip was a 22 incher my dads buddy got b4 we got there friday night.i think we ended the trip catching 25 walters..hope this helps anyone heading up this week to brve the frigid weather and catch some walters...

We went out of Hunter Windfield's and had a great time. Fishing was best Friday night. Saturday through Sunday slow. They put us on a good area and were very helpful...

Chill62 I live in the the Detroit lakes area and have fished a few times with little luck. Just wondering what lake you got the fish in the pictures on.

On the main basin... Ice is making progress and now covers Lake of the Woods. Satellite images from 11-17-18 show the majority of the lake locked up with various pockets of open water. A very welcomed sign, but way too early to be on the main lake. Some spearing for pike taking place on Bostic Bay. Spearers are often the first on the ice. Please use resort marked trails and exercise safety precautions as ice thickness is varied. On the Rainy River... The Rainy River and Four Mile Bay is frozen over with various pockets of open water. Currently, higher than normal current. Areas of the river locked up earlier in the week. Up at the NW Angle... The NW Angle is locked with ice. Higher than normal current. As always, neck down and other areas with current are iffy. Mainly airboat traffic between islands thus far. Work through resorts and stay on staked resort ice trails when ice fishing begins. Safety first. We are getting closer!

We hunt 108 and are overrun by wolves. You can count the number of deer tracks up there. Same thing to the west of us. Once they deplete the deer enough they either starve or move on. Problem is if they have a neighboring pack the fight is on and they have nowhere to go. So we go through these endless cycles between having deer or having wolves. Biologists have determined a wolf can eat 25 deer a year!
