I have a bunch of plastic cups, knifes, forks, spoons, and a extra grill if we need it. I will also bring some chips and hotdogs.

I'll be in Waconia but unfortunately not for ice fishin.

The wife and I have an orientation class at the hospital Sat and Sun to familiarize us with everything before our bundle of joy shows up in mid Feb.

Not sure what time we are done on Sun but maybe will swing out there after if it isn't too late in the afternoon.

wondering how many people are bringing out grills?

Just bring one if you have room, if we need one then it is there and we are not scrambling at the last minute.

Is anyone bringing their kids???? My 9 yo son Dylan will be there thats why I ask.

Sounds like there might be a few people out there! Hey bigred1974, I'm probably on the same side of the world you are, hope to meet you out there. Unfortunately we would not be able to car pool, at least this time, since I will be coming from up north.

Buck and Chris - I'll try to get there by noon. I'll bring some oak scraps we can use for firewood too. I've got some cookies and snacks I'll bring - but let's touch bases on Saturday - perhaps I could pick up whatever is left.

oh, BTW, I could use a seat in someone's house too. smile

Just so everyone knows for sure the get together is on like donkey kong baby!!!!!!!!!!!! I will see you all there tomorrow around noon. I have the white pole barn tin with maroon trim house it is on wheels with the v front and FM sticker on the door. and killa has the baby blue one right by me,and his uncles (aka 516) is the gray T-house.

Yesterday morning I stopped by the marina and asked them if they could possibly plow us a little road out in that area and today I was out there to find out they were nice and generous and plowed us a super highway out to our houses. If you stop in the marina on your way out Please make sure you take the minute to thank them personally, so in the future they will do it again for us...So if you have a car it shouldnt be a problem. Like I said earlier if anyone needs holes drilled just come over and knock on my door dont be shy!!! Feel free to stop by and check out my house if you'd like.

If anyone needs directions or has any questions feel free to contact me or Tim (aka killa) My cell is 952-201-5029 and Tim's is 952-836-8035.

I cant wait to finally put faces with names, I think tomorrow is going to be a blast!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Chris,

Are you guys out on Center reef still? If not, do you have general directions?

I will be there and bring a grill. I am going to look for a chimney starter for the charcoal. I will bring some VBrats and some pepper sticks too. Are you guys out in a shanty village or a little away from the crowds? Man, after the week of cold we had, 15 degrees tonight feels awesome, I can't wait for tomorrow.

Hey everyone, The GTG is set for sunday at 11 or 12( or whenever you get there) and will go for as long as people will stay. It will be on center reef...if you take in townes road I believe it will be one or two right turns and a left. there will be like a five foot USA flag on the east side of the group (this will be visible from that road.) There will be a few grills out there so we can have a cook out. there is a list of things we may need yet on the forum. so if anyone is willing to pitch in that would be great. just post if your bringing something. the weather is suppose to be like 26 degrees so being cold shouldn't be too much of an issue... that should be everthing that I wanted to say I won't be home all night (spending the night on waconia to try and find a walleye or two) and ill probably be out all day tomorrow so if you have any questions call me on my cell (952) 836-8035 or if that don't work try my dads cell (952) 693-8356. otherwise I will see every one on sunday.

If anyone is coming from the south metro tomorrow I was wondering if my cousin could hitch a ride to the lake with you?

He lives in Farmington, but his wife will be attending a B-day party off of 169 and Canterbury Rd around noon or a little before.

If anyone could help him out that would be awesome!!!! call me cell 952-201-5029 and we can work out the details.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
