I have been researching catching cats through the ice a little and it looks and sound sounds fun i was wondering if any one knew of any good ponds or lakes in the south metro around Prior Lake Lakeville area that have cats.

I don't know much about the south metro, but I can definitely say that icing cats is fun. Especially if you are using light gear.

I would say just search for lakes in the area that have cats and find the holes. Once you find the holes work the slope into the hole, not the hole itself as much, and just search till you find fish. Have fun and good luck.

I understand using light or heavy gear depending on the size you are going to be catching but i have been searching for a wile and no one has really talked about what kind of rig you should use when fishing cats trough the ice. Do you want to use strait or treble hooks and do you tie a leader with a small barrel sinker or is it better to just use a ice fishing jig with some color. If you do tie a leader how long should you make it. Any help would be appreciated.

I have found one pond in the area that is suppose to have them in it but i cant find any kind of pond or lake map for it. I spent 3 hours the other day going up and down the pond drilling holes with my hand auger and the deepest I could find was 9.5 feet and i guess the deepest part is around 11 but I could not find it. Any suggestions on what i should do to catch some cats on this pond i tried using dead minnows at the 9.5 with no luck.

SMF- I think I know the pond your hitting. Don't mention the name of it on here as its a tiny hole I'm told is full of cats. I'm hoping to head out there sometime this week. Maybe we could meet up out there and search around. Use my gas auger. Hit me up at [email protected]

A lot of the people I've been fishing with don't want to try for cats.

Yes, I've been to that pond and there are Cats there, but I think there are better options. Some are smack dab in the heart of the city wink

Dtro email me your better options if your willing. It'd be greatly appreciated. I am completely against posting exact names of small lakes on here so you know I wont post any.

What sd card shows the best contours for the Canadian side of namakan lake. I have the navionics us- Canada but it only shows 5 ft increments. Looking for 1 ft. Thanks in advance.

@Getanet Tough weekend for learning new water.  If you head up that way again shoot me a pm.  I have a lot of time on Cass and usually do pretty well.  I will be up there the second week of June for a couple weeks.

Topped out at 55 degrees Sunday afternoon.  Did ok on panfish, just really tough fishing in the howling wind.  The male crappies are getting really dark.

I love the location of the Retreat Lodge, never stayed there though.

I finally got out fishing last week on Thursday. I used a gulp alive minnow. one of the smaller ones, and it worked great. I put it on a pink ratso with a white body and the gulp on it and the crappies and bluegills would not leave it alone. Other baits were not as effective that afternoon.

I am helping out with the MN SATT (high school fishing) and Classic Bass Pro tournament trail to help fill 20 more boat marshal spots on Le Homme Dieu and the chain on June 14, 2019.  As a boat marshal you will be placed in a boat with some of top bass pros in Minnesota and the country.  The likes of Dean Capra, Seth Feider, John Figi, Matt Peters,  and many more top pros fish these events.  (not sure if they are fishing the Le Homme Dieu event or not, but it gives you an idea of the caliber of anglers fishing this trail and the opportunity you could have to be in their boat!) Your job would be to record fish on an app and make sure the anglers are following all the rules of the trail.  There is much more information on the sign up page and if you have additional questions about what is require you can call my cell 612-819-8500.  We opened this up to High School Anglers first, and now we are opening it up the general public.  You must be 13 years or older and this is a great opportunity to learn something new by just being in the boat with some of these anglers.  Here is a link to https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b084ba5ad2ba6fb6-classic2  sign up before the spots are filled up! Hello David, we visited Vermilion for years until purchasing some land in the Frazer Bay / Smarts Bay area. We have stayed at a number of resorts, but really enjoyed Retreat Lodge due to the owners, reasonable prices and fantastic fishing within 2 miles of where it is located! Good luck with your decision!   Vermilion is a one of a kind lake!
