Jared, how you doing? Your ears might have been ringing on sunday afternoon. Rude and I had our kids out ice skating and we were talking about you. It was all good smile.

That's funny...small world. Things are good here and I hope the same for you. We'll have to get out on the bay soon. JH

Yeah, I drive by Barkers every morning and every night, I saw the "sheeple" parked on top of my shack. I thought someone was in the shack at first, oh well. I shouldve went down and parked my truck right next to all there stuff. What is it with people having to fish on top of you? I betcha I could move the shack 200 yards north and everybody would think "thats where the fish must be"

If your not fishing at the time why do you care? You cant claim your spot by putting a camper on 9 feet of water my man.. good day

There is alot of room out there and (in my own opinion)the fish are spread out through out the whole area and not just in one spot..

If you want fish get there before 3 p.m. and fish til 5:30 using a green glo buckshot with a minnow head on one line and a dead stick with a minnow about 5 in off the bottom on the other. the fish are there they will come.

Lets all just get along and use this forum for what it intended for... fishing reports for the harbor and not for rippin on people.

good luck and good fishin

Let's keep this respectful all, while we value outdoorsmans opinions personal attacks are unwarranted and not welcome on this website.

Yes the fish are all over. I have caught fish in all of the couple dozen spots I have fished. Key is getting away from folks abd being respectfull and not getting on top of eachother. Just because there is a road to a spot doesnt mean its a good spot its usually just a convenient spot.

There hasnt been 1 real consistant lure, at least for me. A minnow on a bare hook a few inches off bottom with a bobber just big enough to keep it afloat is key. Some very light bites coming and you have to wait a while before setting the hook. A dropper off a small spoon with a minnow head has been pretty good though.

Have fun on here guys. Lets not get personel.

Went out tonight from 3 to 6 and was only able to coax one little eye into biting. One pout after dark, but not too much action. Lots of lookers, not a lot of biters.

Steve - how is "the spot"? Maybe one day next week on Mon or Thursday ill venture out there on the wheeler and give 'er a whirl. I bought a new flip-over house today....so i'll be incognito for a bit. Thinking of getting my house off Dock Island also. Haven't been there in awhile....and don't care to deal with the all the sheeples that are out there.

Keep in touch Steve....

Woodie I changed your post to protect the inocent. wink

The "spot" is very spotty and I have done better on the flats and or humps.

I'll e out at the shack tonight and sunday. I'm gonna give Northlanders way of fishin for eyes a try. Plain hook 5" off bottom with a bobber. I'm gonna leave the tip-ups with a teardrop. I usually run with a whole minnow on the tip-ups just to get some action, is this wrong?

I have never caught a walleye on a tip-up out there, don't know why, but never have. Just use a plain or colored ( I prefer)hook with a fat head about 5" off the bottom.

The harbor was kinda slow yesterday but we did manage a couple eyes for the pan and also got a couple sturgeon. Hope to be back out on saturday

For some reason tip ups dont seem to work out there. I also have never caught a walleye on the river with a tip up. Only things I have caught are pout and pike on them.

Now I drill 3 or 4 holes. 1 for a deadstick/bobber rod and the others to jig in and move the graph around so I see my bait at all times. Several fish I caught I never saw on the graph. They just flew in and smashed my bait. Others I have played take away and the old switcharoo for minutes before they bit.

It should only get better out there.

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
