Didnt seem to be any slush issues the other day. I had around 15". LOTS of people driving and full houses being dragged out by full sized trucks. I still drove my wheeler. For me it's just cheap insurance leaving my truck on shore.

It is a bumpy ride though. somewhat plowed, lots of hard packed snow, which makes it real bumpy. also saw a few cars out (dont know how many scraped the underside though)

I'm looking at heading out to Rice tomorrow but have never fished it before. Are there any known springs or dangerous spots I might want to steer clear of?

Thank you Hard617. I have been fishing mostly up north and it's pretty much a mess on the those lakes. Even tough for a snowmobile to get around. Sounds like lakes in this area are a little better than up north.

There was an open spot in the middle of the main bay when the rest of the lake had around 5 1/2. When I was out there last, I saw trucks driving very near that spot. almost looked to be a road going past it, but this was from the sw access near the river that the road had come from. I dont think you have too much to worry about now, especially if they are driving out from that area. the river is probably your most dangerous spot. For what it's worth, I always come in from the north. Good luck!

A few weeks ago there was water bubbling up on horeshoe. Made for a real mess. Doesnt seem to be any issues now, not on rice anyway. I'm sure most everywhere around here is good, just enough snow to make banking easy, and not too much to make a mess or travel too difficult.

I didn't find it, just passing the info of a post I saw on Craigslist. One would think if they could access the information, it would be a done deal.

Any reports on Grindstone lake? What have y’all been catching and what size?

Couldn't you find any contact info or was the battery dead?

You’ll like em.  And these temps are exactly the reason to invest in gear like that.  I just spent the entire day out fishing in mine.  Temp topped out at 5; wind gusts and snow.  Half the time in the open and half in a poorly heated flip over.

Post on Craigslist that a person found a phone on North Center lake.....under sporting goods.

Cars seem to be going to all areas of the lake.  Very light traffic.  I wasn't home this weekend so I don't know what was going on.

Shiners are hard to find right now. If you can get smaller suckers those worked good.  I fished 32ft off edge of mud flat last weekend. Everything we caught was on Bobber or rattle reel. Tried everything from tinglers to rippin raps last weekend for jigging, no luck.  The extreme cold did not help.  I usually do good jigging. I usually fish 3ft off bottom that deep.  Every fish we did catch was over 25 inches. 4 total the whole weekend. Missed a few others. Rattle reels worked well. Orange glow seemed to be a good glow Jig.

1.21.19 Sunset Lodge Fishing Report, NW Angle of LOW,

      Hello from the NW Angle!

We are making ice up here at Sunset Lodge and with fresh snow coming the trails should be in great shape.

In Minnesota, we are seeing really nice saugers mixed in with walleye in 26-29ft. Rippin raps and rattle baits are calling fish to the house during slower portions of the day. Pink and white remains the favored color combo. Work these baits aggresively as they will attract fish, mellow out as fish appear on electronics, then finesse them with a more subtle presentation to seal the deal.

Crappies continue to come in from Canada. Electronics are key with a small presentation such as a tungsten jig with a small piece of minnow. Walleye action is hot off points and reefs on flats between 24-28 ft.

      Until next week!

Liberty beach 20 dollar weekend pass with free drink token lol. I ended going out of hunters to the mud flats last weekend.  Didn't see liberty beach sign until next day. Not sure how far there roads go out. Hunters was having problems keeping roads open due too cracking.  But they always had options to get in.  1 hour to get off lake Sunday as center road was closed.  Lots of people going out and some of the people were driving too fast on the roads. I was going 10 mph hauling my wheel house and had a guy pass me on way in with a tandem so... It is was it is.

Thanks, guys.  I ended up going with the Striker Climate bibs and jacket.  Ultimately I wanted things with removable liners so I could use them in late fall and early spring as well, even as late as fishing opener.  I searched high and low for the Clam Ascent stuff, as I wanted the free boots , but nobody has the jackets in 2X or 3X, only the bibs were in stock.  The store in Roseville that sells guns and skis had 30% off all ice fishing clothing which made the Striker stuff a bit easier to swallow since Striker jacks the price up for extended sizes.  I ended up buying the Combat gloves too.  Haven't had a chance to use any of it yet, and probably not looking great with the single digits coming up later this week and plans on the weekend.  At least we're making ice!
