Use caution on Grand

Fellow FMer's, be careful while venturing out on Grand Lake. The road that was plowed over the low part of the pressure ridge has been spitting out some serious water. I ventured out there this evening to check on Frank's perm. (which is high and dry by the way bud) and was unpleasently surprised by nearly getting stuck with my truck. If it were not for four wheel drive I would still be there. The road looked a little wet then WHAM, I hit the water and fell down quite a few inches. Needless to say, I could have used Northlanders hefty bag at that moment . So after backing out I noticed some one had plowed around that main part of the road and was able to get to the shack. Lot's of slush on other parts of the road, so be careful not to get stuck. I would not advise to venture far from the roads that are passable as you never know what lurks deep beneath the snow that has not been driven on yet. BC

One word when driving the ice roads and especially when crossing pressure ridges/cracks on plowed roads.

Take is slow! OK 3 words.

When you drive fast on ice your making a wave and busting up the ice in front of you. Slow down and cross those cracks slow.

Rob at Bears Den has been keeping the road open along with a few other guys with plows. Sooner or later they'll run out a places to e-route the road around the pressure ridge.
