I pull it out of the lake!

I run both a live and fake decoy

i saw the hole out

just northerns

2. Mostly fake(all different kinds) every once in a while I will get a live decoy and run both.

3. Auger and saw.

4. Just northerns, mostly smaller ones(20-26")

A. pull out with tongs replace it when I am done or smash it up with my chisel into very small chunks if I am staying for an extended period.

A. Both live and decoys (I prefer decoys)

A. Fish ice saw

4. spear all legal fish or just northerns?

A. just northerns

Mostly fake small red white

auger when over 15 inches

northerns sometimes a carp if the cats are hungry

1. Under the ice.

2. Both! Certainly red & white but I switch dekes every 5 minutes unless something is really working great.

3. Auger and ice saw.

4. Pike-that's all we see.

1. Use a eight inch auger.

2. Use a tip-up with a quick strike rig, tipped with a lively shiner. Most if not all fish are released unharmed.

3. Drill two holes, one for each tip-up.

4. Northerns, bass, walleyes, or anything that eats shiners.

1. Pull it out with my chipper

2.Both, mainly decoy in natural color

3.Auger 8" 4 holes x 2 holes

4.Northerns only unless I see a carp(smoked carp is awsome)

Pike, Whitefish and every carp I can remove from the lake.

The mortality rate on the fish I decide to let go is 0%. I have NEVER let a fish go that didn't survive, can you top that Skeets?

yep pickle ,smoke, deepfry, bake,grill, cakes..hummmm makes me wonder what I'll do with the pike I got today. I think I can honstly say that anyway I eat pike is my favorite.

No, I can't.

I'm sure some fish that are released end up dead anyway.

You forgot the boil cool

Put about three tablespoons of Old Bay seasoning in a pot of boiling water. Chunk up the northern drop the in for about 3-4 minutes and eat with drawn butter.

Seeing a lot of fish on lake X just no size. I have been seeing some MONSTER fish on lake XXX. Shoot me an email for details. I just pulled my house I'm off to the Whitefish chain this weekend.

      Back when the DNR was seining our beach in July I asked, and apparently they were through oak narrows.   But long way to go to get to us.   I'll keep my eyes open and my mask and snorkel on.  Didn't see any sign off them this summer.

      Nice job Troy.   We are happy with our opening day for ducks.  2 man limit of mixed species by 10am.  LOTS of people where we were today but that was expected.  Other than getting beat to our spot, no issues that would keep up away.  Not even the rain.

      There are actually 3 tree carvings on the trail from Soudan to Ely.  I saw 2 of them but missed the 3rd.  I believe that trail is the Prospector Trail #4 or #6.  You have to start from the parking lot on the Murray Road 2 miles past Soudan since several property owners on the old railroad bed didn't allow off-road vehicles on their properties.  Another option is to travel from Tower to Embarrass then on to Ely, but that adds a couple hours to the trip.

      The colors are getting good. Beautiful time of year. Maples are full red and birch and aspen are going too.  I’m not finding a formula for walleyes. Best luck when fishing saddles and shoreline drop offs 10’ down to 20’. I’m using old crawlers, too, because a) it’s hard to find minnows although Northwoods in Cook has them and b) it’s been too warm to keep them alive.  We do have a change in weather happening right now. Wind is coming up and the temperature is dropping. It’s going to be hard to fish Saturday through Monday but the change could be good after that.  Good luck, you’ll need some. They are out there and you’ll get dinner but you’ll have to work for them. RLG

      Some more heavily fished lakes are tough ALL season.  Lake Minnetonka and Mille Lacs come to mind.  The water is clear, there are tournaments all the time, and the fish are not easy to catch.   That is why I focus my efforts on lakes with less pressure.
