THAT'S IT!!!

i quit ice fishing fishing low with the exception of december, too many trips with catching lots of 6-12 inch fish,(dont those things ever grow up?)and really struggling to keep enough for a meal. i would rather fish red or rainy if i'm going to travel that far. i'd rather let big fish go then catch 50 dinks.just my opinion. this wasn't just one bad trip but went on for 6-8 yrs.

I would take the 80 fish in 3 days. I haven't been back up there in a couple of years. My last trip up there we stayed at Riverview Resort where we had stayed a number of times over the years. We were somewhat disapointed that it was under new ownership. The reason I haven't been back to LOW was first our Bombadier broke through the ice, everyone had to jump out in -30 temps and wait for a second bombadier to be pulled out. When we got back to Riverview, the new owner did not even make it seem like a big deal or appologize for his drivers careless decision making. Needless to say I would never stay at Riverview or recommend it to anyone. The other reason I wouldn't make the drive is we definately saw a decline in fish numbers and size over the past couple of years.

I fish both Red and LOW all Winter long. I'll likely be on both this extended weekend. My experience is that both lakes have friendly people and &*$holes. In general, we catch larger fish on Red and more fish on LOW. We catch a lot of 11 inchers on LOW. Almost everything is over 15" on Red. I've had both good and bad weekends on both lakes. It's fishing. There are no guarantees but one.......a bad weekend of fishing beats the best of weeks working!!

My dad, myself and my son fished URL on Friday and LOW on Saturday. Caught the same amount of fish on both days. Kept the same amount both days. The weather I feel shut them down big time. Both places are great fisheries. I guess I value the time together more than the catching part. Oh we caught 15 fish both days and kept 5 each day. Nothing great but we are able to get a couple of meals out of them. Just my two cents worth.

So quality is at question. Obviously URL has a reputation of giving up a lot more slot fish than LOW. I myself would prefer to catch slot fish than get all the unders to eat. However, my question is which lake has better trophy potential(+28")?

LOTW by far....4 now
