Well our 1st trip up to the Lake of the Woods consisted of lots of little fish. We had on average about 15 fish a guy each day and we kept enough for two fish frys up there and a small bag of fillets for each guy. It seemed like the 8-10" sauger and walleye were in abundance. The highlight was a 25" 6 pound walleye iced on Sunday afternoon. Accomadations were exactly what we needed at Schusters resort. We fished in 24-27ft of water all three days moving houses all three days, but never really got into the run we had hoped for. Would definately go back to Schusters in hopes of getting into a little better fishing.....maybe a summer trip. I would be happy to answer any questions anybody has about the trip as I appreciated all the info I received before I went. Good luck the rest of the year!
Melitrade

Melitrade,
Thanks for the report. We will be hitting LOW and Red Lake this weekend, starting Friday afternoon. I assume that Schuster's has a plowed road, or did you use another road. How were ice conditions, thickness, heaves, etc.? What did you use for bait? We went out of Adrian's two weeks ago, using lake shiners and hit a bunch of small sauger and walleye, only 1 sauger was 14", all others were smaller. It was chilly, -40 wind chill so we only fished for about 3 hours, concerned that the road would be blown closed before we got back in.
Thanks again, appreciate it!!
Good Luck to all!

TomBow,
Schuster's resort didn't have a plowed road from it, but there was a pretty decent snowmobile / bombadier trail heading down the river towards the big lake from the resort. We went with a package they had so we were shuttled by bombadier. With the warm weather the ice conditions were getting kind of sloppy. There was standing water in pretty many spots by the time we left. There was a plowed road a little ways to the west from where our trail hit the lake. I'm not exactly sure on what resort it was from, but it got a lot of traffic while we were up there. There were two pretty good size heaves that we crossed just west of Pine Island, but it seemed that if you went one way or another you could find a way to get across them. Plenty of trucks out on the ice, however I'm not sure how much longer that will last. We did see one buried up to the axles in the slushy ice. We were provided about 2 inch fathead minnows and we bought some shiners and wax worms, but it didn't seem that anything worked better than the provided fatheads. I wish you luck and hopefully you can get into the bigger walleyes.
Melitrade

I don't think they have fixed much

More playas bite the dust. Probably at least 5 more by the sounds of the reports. Gotta be at least the many so I can be out too!

Have faith. You can see progress and ice depth from previous years on the Eagle Docks FB page. They said 16 inches a day or so ago. A few years back they had 16 inches only a week before official ice out. 60s to even 70s next weekend. It will be gone before opener. I'm planning on docks and lifts next weekend, but I am in a small protected bay that goes out pretty early.

We need optimism right now. The small bays haven't even opened up yet, which is typically two weeks before the big bays lose their ice. The forecast is in our favor though and I see that it's windy today, also a great sign.

Go to the DMV, see if there's a serial number on it. They should be able to title it

I moved my blind right into the middle of the field after I left this morning. It sticks out like a sore thumb on the landscape. A friend advised me to try this. We'll see if it works later. I hate the way it looks without blending in, but I have to try something else.

For a long time I've been getting pop-ups and error pages where I have to back page. I just thought it was the price of playing in the old sand lot! 🤔
