Curt what is the call sign of your station? You are in TRF's right? Can I pick you up on the way to and from the lake say from Bemidji north.
Great weekend on the ice huh? We fished crappies down here 4 straight days starting on Thursday and pounded 'em. Sure was nice to be out in the open in 55 degree weather. Too bad you work on Saturday it would have been great to hook up with you this weekend. It will happen one of these days. Hopefully the weather and fishing hold for this weekend as well. Looking forward to Thursday morning. Good luck and hang on. Bill

Bill,
KKAQ AM 1460
KKDQ FM 99.3
Thief River Falls
You wont get the stations without a bunch
of static over in that country north of
Bemidji. Our FM is at 99.3, In Walker there
is a big station on 99.1 and that takes care
of us about half way to Red Lake. Our AM
is at 1460 and gets some interference over
that way from something or another.
Get on this side of Red Lake and we will
come in good.
Thanks for asking

------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio
[This message has been edited by curt quesnell (edited 03-17-2003).]

Curt: I'll be giving you a try as we head that way on Thursday. I'm amazed when I'm on the Lake as to how few stations we can pick up in the fish house. I thought being in the wide open spaces the signals would travel better with less resistance.
What is your station's format? I would think country would be big. What time does your show air? Thanks again, Bill

Widetrack: Hopefully what goes around, comes around and they will get slapped upside the head.
Is the hockey tourney over with now? You can now head out to the ice and not worry about the Zamboni running over you!!!!!
Bill

Bill:
Yes, I'm going to be fishing like a madman till the ice goes out in the middle of June!
Then I'll put my boat in and fish some more.
I'm free at last.

That's what makes this country as great as it is. Freedom of Speech

Widetrack: I second that motion. I'm headed up on Thursday morning. Hopefully the fish will cooperate and its not to sloppy on the ice. We were driving around down here on Saturday and the wake from the truck was pretty big,,,,,its an eerie feeling, but the crappies were really hitting. Hope the eyes and saugs are good to us this weekend. Bill

Curt; Ok, guess I was reading more into that post than was intended. I posted your call signs in the Tahoe today. I will try to pick you up early on Thursday as we head to the pond. We'll be on the road by 5am and should be real close to Bemidji around 7am.
Have you heard anything recently on the conidtions of the ice? I'm not worried about the thickness, just the slop on top. We found down here that once the snow melted and that runoff was gone, things started to firm up again. Looks like it is going to turn a little cooler again for late this week. This will be the last trip for this winter, so hopefully the fishing Gods are on our side. Bill

Bturck, four of us were fishing out of Babbler's road yesterday. The road was pretty sloppy,no problem driving along side of it. There is a pretty good size pressure ridge just north of Gullrock. We made it across (botteming out at the top). Fished the 12 mile got some nice fish but not many. Arnesen's were moving thier houses closer to shore all day. Nice temps. no wind! I saw some people taking pictures of a BIG jack at one of Arnesen's houses. Widetrack Border one is bare of shelters now! Good luck on your trip.
------------------
Old Guide Charters
Lake of the Woods
http://fishingminnesota.com/oldguidecharters/
Call Toll Free:1-800-952-(9484)

Thanks Old Guide. We are headed to River Bend Resort so I would imagine we will be somewhere in the vicinity of Pine, or the Gap. I emailed Brian but did not get a response as to wether they had moved there houses back in from the 32-34' water. We'll find out I guess. I'll post a report on Sunday. thanks again, good luck and hang on. Bill

Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter. Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th. I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th. Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt. Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
