I think you'll be ok with just a truck.

Humpback,I was on the 16 yesterday. We did very good, nice size walleyes very few saugers. Had about 5 jumbo perch (full of what looked to be fresh water shrimp?) We went out for the pm bite today same spot, same holes etc. Caught 2 keeper walleyes and 1 sauger. I watched fish (on the FL18) come up,look at the bait and go back down. The positive side was it was +46f very little wind, fished outside with sweatshirts. The snow has gone down some you'll have no problem with a truck (4 wheel drive!!) Tomorrows another day (they'll prob. bite better!) Good Luck!
------------------
Old Guide Charters
Lake of the Woods
http://fishingminnesota.com/oldguidecharters/
Call Toll Free:1-800-952-(9484)

We are heading up to LOW next weekend and staying with Randalls in there sleeper houses. What type of lures should we bring? Does Randalls allow you to drive out to the house? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks wink.gif

Hawkeye,
They bring you out in a bommer, I don't think you can drive out to the sleepers. Usually you are miles out on the lake. Gold is usually one of the most common colors, you could use sweedish pimples, gemneyes, jiggin raps, angel eyes. Plain red hooks are good, and anything that glows.
I will be in a sleeper there this weekend too, maybe we'll have a few beers.
Good luck
Quit wishing and go fishing
Ole

Thanks for the info Ole. Beer is definitely in our plans. I also understand we should be bringing 2 12" extensions. The one won't cut it.
We would like to bring our vehicle on the ice so we can cruise over to URL and hit the crappies one night. Maybe the bomber can pick us up when we want to come in.
See you next weekend.

Hawkeye,
I don't think you can bring your own auger, but if you can, I would like to bring mine. I have a 10" jiffy. You should find out. Hopefully we will get into some pigs. I know they keep the two sleepers pretty close so we will definatley have to get togather.
Ole

When I was deer hunting last fall, the obvious explosion of wildlife then was evident then too. I saw over 50 deer, 20+ turkeys, and too many pheasants to count in a week. Nothing has changed. These mild fake winters have to be playing a big role in survival. And if we get another good reproductive cycle in June, I would expect another booming fall season.

Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter. Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th. I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th. Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt. Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
