one more thing
those angel eyes are great there is no doubt but does anyone else loose a lot of fish with them
i feel like it is because they are so light you cant get a good hook set
not making excuses just wondering if i am the only one who has noticed this
my advice to anyone going up is stay shallow
especially 445 pm til half hour after dark in 18 ft or less
dont be scared to go shallow

Walleyesnob. We went out of Springsteel and also caught a TON of small eyes. We were in 28-31 feet about 8 miles out. Grabs managed a 26.5 incher and we also caught a 8 lb pike 8 and 11 poud pout and about 15 14-21 inch walleye and sauger. The kicker was we got into some jumbo perch in the 12 to 12.5 inch range out there as well. No real consistant size on the eyes but we didn't want to move any shallower because of the jumbo perch and nice sauger we were getting in deeper water. Sounds like the true hogs were shallower. We couldn't have asked for a better weekend weatherwise though. Nice to fish without a jacket!
[This message has been edited by Mykal (edited 03-17-2003).]

rhski,
I'll be sure to say hello from you to my pops. I'm hoping to get up there asap, but I'm not sure when that'll be. Next time I get over your way I'll give you a shout. However, it night not be for a while- I usually head over that way in the fall.
Same offer goes for you when you make it over to Fargo- 476-1850. Cold ones in our fridge too and you're welcome to some anytime!
Scoot

strat-o-caster
where we you at this weekend on 5 mile? I was there and didn't have the luck you did. Not to bad of a morning run but then it slowed down for us and was slow the rest of the day. Not much for size either.
------------------
Grip it and Rip it
IFFWALLEYES

Scoot, I feel your pain, only 2,000 miles stronger. Sounds like change is in the air up there and that is enough to make me smile on a Monday. I will be calling in the next couple days.

Sounds good, Doc. I look forward to the call.
Change is definitely in the air. I'm hoping for a major warming trend or cooler weather. I'm afraid we'll get "in-betweened" for the first week of April and not be able to river fish and not be able to fish comfortably on the ice either. Ideally we'll be able to drive vehicles on the ice then, but who knows... I'll struggle to get many 4-wheelers lined up.
Scoot

Mykal, good to hear that fish were caught..Yes it was great weather to fish without a coat on the water...

Say iffwallye, not sure if you see this. We were set up on the North side. I had my Dodge dakota (White) out there. We set up in 27 feet of water.Yes the walleyes were VERY small but like I said the perch were really BIG ! It did really slow down, in the early afternoon, so we Fried up the fish and headed down the road to Red lake. Ended catching our limit in a couple of hours and headed for home. WHAT A WEEKEND!!

I don't think they have fixed much

More playas bite the dust. Probably at least 5 more by the sounds of the reports. Gotta be at least the many so I can be out too!

Have faith. You can see progress and ice depth from previous years on the Eagle Docks FB page. They said 16 inches a day or so ago. A few years back they had 16 inches only a week before official ice out. 60s to even 70s next weekend. It will be gone before opener. I'm planning on docks and lifts next weekend, but I am in a small protected bay that goes out pretty early.

We need optimism right now. The small bays haven't even opened up yet, which is typically two weeks before the big bays lose their ice. The forecast is in our favor though and I see that it's windy today, also a great sign.

Go to the DMV, see if there's a serial number on it. They should be able to title it

I moved my blind right into the middle of the field after I left this morning. It sticks out like a sore thumb on the landscape. A friend advised me to try this. We'll see if it works later. I hate the way it looks without blending in, but I have to try something else.

Im getting a ton of them also. So bad that I have to back out of the site and retry. Anyway to prevent them?

For a long time I've been getting pop-ups and error pages where I have to back page. I just thought it was the price of playing in the old sand lot! 🤔
