On the south end...  Strong walleye bite this week.  Water temps cooling off, migration has started and walleyes are putting on the feed bag for winter.  Walleyes in good numbers along south shore with a big school still in front of Lighthouse Gap (mouth of Rainy River) in 28' - 30'.  Various schools of walleyes along south shore and also holding to structure areas.  Emerald shiners continue to run in some bays and Rainy River, but not heavy.  Anglers having success trolling crankbaits, drifting spinners and anchored up and jigging.  The fall jig bite is coming on strong.  Some live shiners are available at local resorts and bait shops. On the Rainy River...   Emerald shiners in the river, not a huge run, but it has started.  Continued Good reports of walleyes in Four Mile Bay as well as up river east of Baudette.  Most common depth, 14-16'.  The fall run has definitely started.  Snelled spinners and jigging the go to method.  Sturgeon anglers also reporting good success as well. Up at the NW Angle...  Walleye fishing excellent.  Walleyes being caught in various spots around Garden Island and around islands and in funnel areas between islands.  Jigging around structure and pulling spinners or cranks over flats all effective.  Crappies and perch activity continues to pick up as water cools.

Thanks Wanderer.  Fall fishing on Rainy Lake is special.

Where on South Pine Island?   We live on South Pine Island East of Canfield Bay, and Bears roll through our property occasionally.  We have outdoor speakers hooked up to SiriusXM that we usually leave on to announce our presence.

After getting a drink he went to lay down. Wasn't the least bit concerned with me. Eventually he put his head down and and obviously wanted to sleep so I moved on and let him get his rest.

I use primarily daiwa Sealines and upgrade the drag disks to carbon fiber drag disks.   I do use Okuma Convector line counters on some of my salmon rods.  The magnas are just too cheaply built to hold up for salmon.  Probably just fine for walleye, pike, etc.

That’s interesting.  I had not seen one either since we got our cabin in 2013, then caught this one on my webcam a few weeks ago.

This is the first one that we've seen in the six years that I've been up here. This was a few weeks ago at a my neighbors man cave in the woods behind our place.

Not sure how common bear sightings are on the lake but I spotted this guy on the South Shore of Pine Island getting a drink. This is now my phone wallpaper. I've seen lots of bears but this was my first Minnesota bear.
