This message is to the kind gentleman who really saved my fishing trip on Saturday.

It all started on Friday drilling my first hole and my 3 year old Strikemaster 3000 10" shattered in half because the gear box blew up. (Traded it in and got a new one yesterday but I am not very happy with Strikemaster when I called them but that is a separate story) Luckily, my dad had his Lazer Mag 9'' with and we fished.
On Saturday on the second pull with my dad's auger the recoil rope broke. I went to the nearest house and the kind gentleman drilled us 8 holes and refused to take any money from me. He came by later and gave us 4 dozen live shinners and fishing improved in fact 3 of us limited out and it was REALLy fun!
I want to thank you for being kind and helpful to a group of fisherman who you did not even know.
I also want you to know I helped 3 guys dig out their pick up and pull them out with my truck on Saturday to somewhat make up for your kind genorosity.
Thanks!
Wobbler

Wow! That's going to be a tough one to explain. Wobbler, any comment?

In reading the old post it sounded like it was one of the guys who was crowding Wobbler that asked to have some holes drilled. And he said he would when there was a lull in the action.
Just my .02 smile.gif

To all of you,
I remember that day quite well and my fishing partner can vouch for me why I did not help right away. When someone drives by your house and almost hits you when you open the door with a vehicle and sets up 10 feet from your house and then comes over and demands to use my auger when I am catching fish that is one thing. I also offered to help him when the fishing slowed down. It was not like I told him no. This guy just asked the guy who was 50 feet away from me but set up in between us and he did it although he was not happy about how close he was to him and told him that.
The gentleman I asked this past weekend did not come over right away but was kind enough to come over and help when he could.
Seems pretty odd that you guys remember that post from way back when. Hopefully it was not one of you. I know better that you guys would at least not set up "Whiz Distance" away from someone else who is already there.
Anyways that is my side and if I was wrong that trip at twin islands I was wrong. I know when I helped those 3 guys on Saturday I went out there before they asked me to help and helped them for 45 minutes during the prime fishing. But they did not set up 10 feet from me either. All I know is I was helped and I appreciate it!

"Anyways that is my side and if I was wrong that trip at twin islands I was wrong."

This doesn't sound like your sure of who was wrong.
And
"All I know is I was helped and I appreciate it!"
All I was saying was I would have appreciated being helped to.
The day on twin island you seem to remember well, has apparently slipped your memory.
Indeed we had driven out with my girlfriend and an older gentleman who I had offered a ride to from shore since he was nervous about driving his pickup out!
I WAS ON A FOURWHEELER, and never drove past your house, actually we came towards your house from the breaker which was located close to 100 yards away from where you were set up, we headed to the west (towards your house) Along with the MANY other fisherman, who were inconsiderate, loud, throwing beer cans, and driving way too close to everyone. However it is a reef area and there were tons of people around.
Now, after almost 30 minutes of pulling on that dang auger, we noticed the closest fishouse was yours (and about 4 others that were very close to yours) however at about 50 yards , you were the closest to us. the older gentleman came around and knocked and asked to borrow your auger.....the fishign SUCKED that day for you and the others around you, and who could blame it with all the noise and people moving about. While standing in your doorway for a few minutes, and while conversing with you when you came over to see how the fishing was, you were in agreement that you caught very few fish, and that while we had asked to use the auger you were getting a lot of bites NOT HARDLY "the hand over fist" you described.
I just remember that it was a day that I would have liked to been helped out, as my auger didn't run, then on Monday when I go to post about the trip, and the fools who were acting like jerk-baits.....driving way to close, etc. I see a post comparing me, asking to borrow an auger, to the idiots who ruined the fishing for you. Just didnt' feel I had done that.
WOW!! Suddenly I begin to question the 6 degrees of separation, this site has brought all of us closer hasn't it!

I think Wobbler's key message is:
Life and our experiences are a lot more fun when everyone helps each other out.
It certainly makes everyone feel better.
I'm sure we've all slipped and not helped when maybe we should have. Let's try to minimize those slips and when it comes time to give remember how we feel when we need help and receive it.

Rick, well said.

I see both sides of this one.
Last W/E when I had to stop & ask if I should drive over the generator cord that was laying over the plowed road to my house, when I thought that the camp beside me was in "my space", I wasn't feeling very neighborly.
Later that day when I went out to charge up my house battery & found out I had left my Bronco lights on and found a great neighbor for a jump, it kinda balanced out.
I got to take my turn the next day to offer tools and the use of my auger to another neighbor.
If fishermen can't respect and support each other, this world is worse off than I thought!
It's a two way street & lots better if your meetin' some traffic.
Doug & Marilyn

Great post! It gives a guy hope for people, doesn't it. My most recent experience at LOW was the opposite of that, with different circumstances, but it's great to hear about the good in people. Thanks for the post. The mystery man wasn't me, but I'd have helped you out any day.

Wobbler, where were you fishing out of?I'll be be heading up this weekend and just looking for a little info.Hell, the way my luck goes I might need this kind souls help!!Good to know there is still people willing to lend a hand!!!Good fish'n - Jigster

Interesting wobbler....I find this story funny! When less then 2 months ago you posted how annoyed you were when someone who couldn't get their auger started had the guts to bother you and another forum member while you were "hammering" the fish.
Glad someone helped you out when your auger didn't work right, wish I would have had the same luck.

Birddog,
I have only 1 comment, I don't think it was me you or your buddy talked to that day in fact I know it was not. You are from Grygala I think? The person that came to my house drove a white Blazer with a trailer and not a 4 wheeler. As a matter of fact that day we had a 4 wheeler and a blue pickup out there. I am sorry to hear your fishing was terrible but mine was not that day and the other 2 people who were with that day who are on this forum can vouch. My fishing partner Jig O Bit almost got hit by a vehicle that day as he opened the door. You are 100% correct that on a reef that should be expected that people will be fishing around you. However, I was fishing a sand flat that day in about 24 feet of water. In fact if you remember a plane flying over and driving next to our house on the ground did not help out fishing either. If it was your group I apologize for my mistake and guess "I should drop everything next time to help right away." The reason I posted yesterday was that I was in need of seroius help and I was lucky enough to get it at their convienence. I just wanted to post it also because if he is on this forum that he can read just how much I appreciated it. Just like I offered if it was your group I would be there when the fishing slowed. I always help people when I have a chance. It is frustrating when I leave at 3:30 to get to the lake by close to 7 in the morning to get to a fishing spot before everyone else and someone pulls up at 11am next door and it was not 50 yards away from me this group set up more like 10 feet because we could hear them breathe and expect instant help. I will respond the same way I did that day. When there is a lull I will help especially when someone is not legally far enough away.
[This message has been edited by Wobbler (edited 03-05-2003).]

Bird Dog, I think you better get your facts straight. There were also kids around that day. You don't mention having any. Second, how can you speak for how my fishing was that day? Third, we had people buzzing our house all day, and by the time we were asked to auger some holes, we were a little po'ed. Fourth, fishing was picking up when we were asked to drill holes. We would gladly help anyone out at anytime, which we have done numerous times.
Get your facts straight and don't speak for how my fishing was or how it was around my house. The people set up to us a lot closer than you are saying also.
Rick you are 100% correct.

I have been in situations where I am surrounded by ignorance. I believe what comes around goes around. Kinda the karma thing. I borrowed someone my auger in a similar situation after explaining to them to layout of the whole area and the first pull the recoil snapped. They offered to fix it, but I said I'd take care of it. When it rains it sometimes poors. Just keep helping people out. If they seem ignorant try to educate. There will be plenty more times on the ice or in the boat when there is a crowd to content with. Good luck to everyone.
[This message has been edited by HOGEYE (edited 03-05-2003).]

I agree that we should all try to help each other when we can. Life is just too short to go around POed all the time. Life is just better for everyone if we try to help one another out when we can. You tend to like yourself more when you are willing to help others.
OK I am done with the philosophical [PoorWordUsage]. Let's fish grin.gif

Wobbler-
The knife is ready to go! Hopefully we'll be able to get through the ice with one of our 3 augers. I think my brother is borrowing a FL-18 to bring up too.
Maybe the cold will deter some of the people that like close neighbors. Either that or they will be 5 feet from our shacks! 'Eyes beware!

Wobbler, and Jig o bit:
This is a public appology: Indeed I am from Grygla, glad to see that we may know each other.
Obviously from the information stated, we are talking about two seperate groups.
The people I dealt with were no where near as considerate as you. I had auger problems and asked for help and was denied, until someone from Arnesons came and drilled my holes for me. I too normally also fish away from a crowd, and hate to be crowded.
I saw a post referring to people asking for help and assumed it reffered to me. As the exact situation happened that same weekend. I am sorry.
I will be out again this weekend in the same area in a red blazer. If you see us, come visit.
I am glad that people like you do help others. Some people arent' that considerate.

I also helped Wobbler pull that truck out. Those guys then decided to set up their house 15 feet away from me at 3:30. I caught two fish after they started drilling holes. If you are going to fish the evening bite, set up early... Show some respect for other fishermen, or maybe next time you are stranded, you will sit out there while everyone else slays the fish...

urbanites,
Bring the GPS and my scale. Also see if any bait shops have shiners on the way up and not those big ones like you brought last time. That will be the key. If you can get 6 dozen or so and I will pay for all them when you come up. Tell Big Cleo that him and his brother are going to be cleaning fish!

Birddog,
Apology accepted. Like I have said on other posts it would be nice to know who Fishing Minnesota people are when we are all out and about. I was not refering to you. I know people on here are very considerate and possess great ethics and are willing to help people when in need. I am sorry you did not get the help you needed that day. It is strange that it happened on the same day and the same area. These guys knocked on our door, saw our fish in the bucket and moved even closer after they saw our bucket. We had a good not great day. We caught some really nice fish or they were all small. I will be out on Saturday around your area either at 16 mile, Arnesons, or Gull Rock. I have a maroon dodge quad cab. Stop by for a Barley pop if you are around!

Welcome back. Wow it's been since 2018 it looks like. Did you ever "I'm tightening up my footprint and want to build on my Bozeman lot on the Gallatin"? 😏

You're probably right. This isn't official since I've already lost, but I'll make my supplemental guess for May 6th since it's still open. 😄 As long as I can snake my way along the shore and/or plow through some dark ice on the 8th, I'll be happy. I love aluminum boats!

For all of my "problems" with getting a clear signal it's worth it. I can spend more time at the lake because I can work during the day and play or get things done at night. Toss in that I can record and watch a football/hockey/basketball game when I'm done at the end of the day....priceless. Like your place, our property is more natural and I was worried about having to cut down a bunch of trees. I like that people have to get up close to see our place from the lake through the trees. Luckily I didn't have to do much to get enough a signal that works for me. If I needed to be on video calls, I probably would run the dish down to the shore to get a better view of the sky. BTW - the main problem with mounting the dish on a tree is that the tree still has a canopy that will block the signal. The best option would be to top a tree and then mount it on the clear-cut top.

Not sure where on the lake you are located, but Paul Bunyan Communications will be extending fiber optic internet for most of the south shore of the lake in the next couple years. If you’re in Beatty township like me, unfortunately we have been snubbed from the expansion.

Our home, Casa De Miel, is in a quiet 1 street gated family neighborhood. With 3 bedrooms - 2 featuring en suite baths. The 3rd room with a beautiful new double queen bunkbed adjacent to the hallway half bath is perfect for kids. That bunkbed is made from the local protected Guanacaste wood, only dead harvested and available there, it is beautiful. All the wood and tile work is pretty cool - we couldn't afford those materials and workmanship here!!. The master has a spacious walk-in closet, and the bunkroom/office has an entire closet wall with safe. With the pool, internet, multiple big screens, an outdoor shower and lovely Casita with a roofed patio, it is perfect for multi-generational families, fishing expeditions, etc. Sleeping capacity is 8. Everything you need is there, and new, from beach and pool toys, PFDs, to quality kitchenware. Serving ware is patio safe, but the wine glasses are glass, so deploy the unbreakable stuff for the 3rd bottle or so. Our property managers are incredibly thoughtful and professional Americans, rated Superhosts on AirBNB. They check you in and are always available. The same crew thoroughly cleans and maintains the exterior landscaping after each visit, and are available additionally if you like for extended stays. Our property managers own their business and are the best - concierge level extra attention is easily arranged. The house is less than a mile to the closest town beach and about 2 miles to another beautiful beach featuring a fantastic beach restaurant. The fishing is great and as a flyfishing guide myself I can recommend thoroughly vetted captains to take you out with conventional tackle. There are kayak guides also. Shore fishing is great anywhere smart. Trout a couple hours uphill. There are local and top notch international grocery and retail stores. The famous 'Monkey Farm' (a unique recovery and animal rescue center with tours, beach horseback rides, etc.) is right there. Many excellent bars and restaurants. Moped and motorcycle, bike, golf cart, scooter and Ebike rentals are easy and about a half mile mile away towards the town center. Kayak, other water toys at the beaches. Surfing and surf lessons are available easily and depart from town beach, as well as whale watching and scenic coastline cruises - smart to research and if you choose, book ahead. We are a little over an hour to a beautiful National Park with hot springs, tours and zips lines, etc. The world famous Lake Arenal area with the volcano and hot springs is a little further, but a very easy day trip. Pricing is flexible but I had to put something in there, so I listed the average daily price. We prefer at least a 3 night rental. Pricing is dependent on your dates, and starts around $220/night - I can send a link with up to the minute pricing. Monthly and longer rentals offer significant discounts. The quiet season is beginning so it is a great time to visit! I have a rustic trout shack on the Madison, and drift rivers for smallies and muskies here in MN, WI, etc. It would be great to meet new fishing buddies through this rental. Maybe we can follow thru for some floats when our calendars line up, or otherwise share/swap resources or fishing opportunities! The property managers currently block out the calendar further than 6 months ahead. Any forum members can contact me and I will facilitate advance bookings. Feel free to email me if you have questions, here's the booking link. Thanks, Pura Vida - Vida de Tiron!

Well since I'm all over this state during the year. Your either not in Minnesota, or your on a Hugh chunk of private land backed up to a state park or wildlife refugee! 🤭

When I was deer hunting last fall, the obvious explosion of wildlife then was evident then too. I saw over 50 deer, 20+ turkeys, and too many pheasants to count in a week. Nothing has changed. These mild fake winters have to be playing a big role in survival. And if we get another good reproductive cycle in June, I would expect another booming fall season.
