Went out this afternoon from 1:30-4:30 The first spot I went to was spotty only a couple of singles. Then I went accross the lake and they were thick as flies on a road kill. Ended up with 17 on the rope I also had 4 more fish in the 30 lb. range tear off on me. I weighed the three biggest ones 36, 33.5, & 32 lbs. smallest fish was 17 lbs. I dont know if I can get out tomorrow but my buddy says we have to!! Well the fun is over now I have to go down to the farm and use the bobcat to dig a BIG hole.

Got out again today it wasnt as good as yesterday but still a good time. We ended up with 13 fish today biggest one was 25 lbs. we did have 2 in the 30 lb. class tear off on us they would pull my 18' alumacraft around like a 12' jon boat. They pull all the line out of the reel and all you can doo is hang on and hope they dont come off. We had a guy come out on his dock and ask if he could take some to smoke, we said how many do you want he replied I'll take 4. We gave him the 4 smallest ones we had witch were still 15-17 lbs. we tryed to give him some 20 pounders but he didnt want them. He laid them right on the dock. Later we came back to see him cleaning them, right on the dock!! what a mess!!. he was using a butchers bone saw !! I have to say it was pretty funny to say the least. I was going to take some pics. today but my digital camera batt. was dead go figure.

Those are hogs. Is there anywhere on Forest Lake that holds more carp than others (like one side of the lake or a certain bay)? If you don't want to answer that's OK, but I live in Chisago and have never been on Forest, but love tagging carp. Have a good one.

Do you know what the water temp is in the area? I've been checking Bald Eagle and haven't seen any action yet. The water temp was only 63 degrees on Wednesday out in the open part of the lake. I hope the north end gets going so some of the carp can be taken.

Both times that I went out the surface water temp was 68-70 deg. As far as area I just drop the trolling motor and cruse the shoreline in about 5' of water on the weed line you will see the males crusing looking for females, watch in the sand in shallower and if you see some sneek up on them and give them a wack!! I think they are about done on forest lake they have been going off and on for about 2 weeks now with this weird spring. Thru the years 36 lbs is my biggest and my buddy who use to live on the lake shot one 38 lbs. it is unreal how much power they have

Thanks Chomp- we found them yesterday without a problem. Also saw a heck of a muskie in the sand shallows. My biggest carp came from Norway Lake in Kandiyohi county- at 48# it literally looked like a hog swimmin along the weedline. The funniest part of the story was I was in a canoe- wild ride. Thanks again and if you ever see a guy bowfishing from a white 21' Triton, stop and say hi. Good shootin!

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
