Kid w/ Tan Dodge & Crestliner Boat on Tetonka

Recommended Posts

I spoke with my buddy this morning who was out on Tetonka Saturday with his wife for a little fishing. He told me of some young, early 20's punk kid who drove a gold/tan Dodge 3/4 ton truck with a Crestliner that has a 200hp Merc on it. Apparently this kid chewed my friend out for temporarily parking his boat on one side of the dock while backing his trailer in on the other side to load his boat. My friend only took about 5 minutes to load his boat, but this kid had a lot of guts to chew my friend out about it.

What set my friend off the most though wasn't the fact that this kid chewed him out at the launch. It was that when my friend and his wife were out on the water, this kid drove (planed out) right by them on two different occassions. The first time of which my friend said the kids boat couldn't have been more than 10ft from him because my friend actually got wet from the spray of the boat! mad The second time he said the kid was about 20ft away from him. mad

Apparently this kid (estimated to be in his early 20's) had 4 girls with bikinis in his boat. I'm sure he's some punk trying to show off for the girls on how big and fast his boat is by harrassing people on the lake and nearly causing a huge, life threatening accident!!!! mad So whoever this kid is......if you see or read this or have friends on here who see and read this........take caution!!!! mad Next time law enforcement will be involved. smirk But screw that head of yours on straight and tuck your darn ego in your back pocket. mad It's not "cool" to put peoples lives and their equipment at risk by driving open throttle close enough to spray them with your boat!!!!! madmadmadDO NOT do that again! I'm telling ya now!!!! mad

And to the rest of the FMers who read this....take caution if you see this kid out on area lakes. He has no regard, ZERO, for other people's well being!

He must have had dadies boat out. I commend your freind for staying calm. I'm sure those kidds were lucky the wife was there.

The smart thing I would do Is call it in as a drunk driver in boat causing trouble then watch where their going from a distance to point them out to athorities.

I try to be smart about things like that.

Yeah, the unfortunate thing is he leaves his cell phone home to avoid certain calls on weekends. His wife actually had to pull him by the arm and settle him down. My buddy is one of the nicest guys you could meet.....unless you do him wrong (and it's got to be bad too). That's a whole other story when he gets upset.

I agree though and had told him the same....next time call the Sheriff. Heck, there is often times one fellow who's a sherriff that sits on shore at the public launch on Tetonka. Also told him he should start to carry a camera in his boat. If not for fish pics, for situations such as this.

And we agree with your thought....probably a kid who had daddy's truck and boat out trying to act like a big cool guy to impress the girlies. Except, what he did on the lake and at the launch was anything but impressive.

Just burns me to hear things like this happen. A large 18' - 20' boat running on plane only feet from another boat. One small slipup and disaster!

It's nothing a 4 ounce sinker can't fix!!! (just kidding)

Your buddy did it best by letting it go. It takes a bigger man to walk away and live to fight another day.

I'm sure if my buddy were casting for pike he could have tied into an 18 footer! laughwhistle

So if I follow this correctly your friend was chewed out by the guy at at the landing as your friend was loading his boat, to leave ?

This happend after the near misses on the water ?

Not sure why he did not record the license number of the vehicle and call 911 from a gas station or when he got home. He seemed to know the vehicle description.

There is no reason to put up with that kind of harrasment.

All while understanding everyone's frustration here, Eric's friend should have been more prepared to act sooner than having him type something on the Internet. Granted, the word is probably getting out but action speaks louder than words any day of the week. Let this be a lesson to all of us that you need to be on your toes at all times, not only from a fishing stand point but also for suspicious behavior, etc and the ability to report it as soon as possible.

Actually, I had posted this on my own and not at his request. My friend isn't even aware I had (yet). My biggest concern is for his well being and the well being of others in the area. I spoke to another gentlement who was nearly run ashore by this young kid while going through the channel between Tetonka and Sakatah. According to this other person's estimation, this young kid was driving 1/3 throttle through the channel leaving a sizeable wake behind him (18'+ boat w/ 200hp Merc). The kid went by quicker than he could get numbers off the boat. So just be alert folks.

Having nearly been run over myself a few times on the lake it really puts me on edge when a boat is headed my way at a high rate of speed. If you had to start the motor to get out of the way you never know which direction is 'out of the way'.

There are no lines on the water so people need to simply give other boaters some space and avoid pointing your boat directly at another when under way. Racing past other boats when you have no idea where they are headed or when they may change direction is foolish.

People hit the water to fish swim ski and relax so everyone please, save the road rage for the road where people truly enjoy being tailgated, cutoff and flipped off. crazy

If this character would have been on Shields on Saturday, we could have surrounded him and opened up a can...

I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
