Just built a fish house this year and have had it on Lake Sarah for nearly 2 weeks. Last Tuesday night someone kicked in my door and made kindling of the door frame. I don't leave anything that's not bolted down so they didn't get anything, just made it a pain in the butt for me to have to haul it back home for repairs.

Got it repaired and brought it back out to the same spot Saturday in anticipation of going out the next day with a friend and my two boys. Got out there Sunday and noticed my door was cracked open a bit. Went inside to see the hole that was left for me where my vented wall furnace used to be. They pried it off the wall over all the bolts and left me with a hole in my wall. Needless to say, with the below 0 temps and no heat source, the fishing never happened and my day was ruined.

I called the Hennepin County Sheriff's Water Patrol Division and they said they had several reports of theft on both nights I was broke into. I'd like to encourage anyone else that has had break-ins to call this department and report your incident. They said they have already added extra surveilance officers in the area and may do some sort of sting operation to try catching the thieves. Unfortunately the only way they will do this is when they get to a certain level of break-in reports on certain areas.

Only suggestions the officer had for me was to leave my door open and windows non-obstructed so the theives can see there's nothing to steal. I thought I had been doing that but I guess a pry bar told me otherwise.

Now I'm looking for a new heat source so if anyone has anything sitting around for cheap (or even better - for free) email me at [email protected].

Break-ins happen every year, it really makes you mad to hear about so much stupidity (busting up someones hand made house). Do we have any idea who these idiots are? Are these kids? Are they people moving stolen heaters etc?? I would love to see a sting with video of someone being arrested, caught in the act...

I hear ya. Going through the same thing. We had our door ripped off our house last week on Bald Eagle. Cleaned me out completely. Rods, reels, tackle, heater. I guess you can't have anything nice these days. I'm seriously thinking about setting up a sting myself. Would love to catch these guys...

Lindy,

Let me know if you come up with a plan. I would love to catch the creeps myself. I was broken into a couple weeks ago.

Both times my shack was broke in, it was a night after I had just fished in it. Makes me think it was somebody on the lake that saw me leave, chilled out for an hour or so, and made his move out to my shack.

Could be way off. It may have just been coincidental that I was there that night.

As for what type of person is doing this, I have no idea. I've never known anyone who's ever known anyone else to do such a thing. People do occasionally get caught doing this - correct? Anyone know what type of person it typically is that is caught? Are they typically rich spoiled kids, or thugs selling stuff for drugs, or just punks that want to fish without paying for their own stuff?

How about leaving an unfed Rotwieller in your house when you're not there or better yet, an onery mother-in-law...

Our house was broken into in a period of less than 24hrs of someone being there. My buddy was out until 11pm on a Sun night and back Mon evening. Happened in that short window. We think someone was watching.

I agree guys. Mine was broken into around christmas on Bald Eagle. I think the people responsible are opportunists. Someone who fishes and steals. GOOD FISHING SPRUNG

This looks like a good opportunity for a new type of car alarm. There are security alarms out there for homes that could make one heck of a racket when someone trips them(fish house security system). Use a car battery, some lights...would be interesting to see what happens when these start going off at 1-2 am??!

Will do Hugo.

It would have to involve having the house loaded with stuff and sitting out all night a ways away. Use binoculars or something. Would kinda suck, but worth it if it worked.

Good luck out there.

Barely had time and data to post a few random daily pics!  😄   Iffen you’re self banned, how’d ya know? 😉   Sunday - Tuesday hunt near Yankton, SD.  We found ourselves there between two of the big pushes north.  Adults first, pushing the ice line north, slipped through a couple days before we got there and the second juvie push held up by the storm that went through the night we traveled.  Our best day was Monday.  Sunny and warm with a nice south wind.  Day 3 was cool with a stiff northeast wind bringing in another storm.     A select few groups did well with birds coming off Lewis and Clark lake but we weren’t in their path.  We packed up early and hit the road.  We headed north and found them between Brookings and Watertown.  Saw 100’s of thousands at the ice line.

Crazy, about 50 Robin's hit our yard!  Not sure what their eating but none are in any of the neighbors yards around us?  Had to cut video down so it would run.  20250319_175454.mp4
