Bug control in the boat

Recommended Posts

Boy, thats strange as all I have had with these units is very good control. We had one in the race trailer last night at the track and it helped there also with the interior lights on and the doors open.

If you don't care for them Eric and cannot return them, give me a call as I may be interested in them.

I am a believer.. I have a shack on Little Pleasant Lake, at the end of the road, in the trees. I have a pond to the southeast, the Lake to the south and west. A low area to the northwest and a pond on the north end of the property, Between the north pond and the pond to the southeast is a wheat field.

In previous years on the Fourth of July weekend, after dusk there was no way you would survive the skeeters outside after dark.

Using the Thermocell this year the family was able to set by the campfire till midnight with little bother from them. Step away from the area the Thermocell was and they would attack and carry ya back to the pond to finish you off later.

I will be purchasing more of these units.

Certainly cheaper than West Nile.

I used mine last night on the shoreline of Mississippi River fishing for carp. The Thermocell worked beautifully keeping away the skeeters, and flies, but it had little effect in keeping away the gnats.Oh,well, just keeping the skeeters away is definitely worth the price I paid for it.

We will be up in MN the middle of Aug. for a couple weeks. Where can I get these Thermacells, what ever it is, sounds like most of you are happy with them

Wally world in the camping section.... prolly the best pricing, I haven't checked specifically, but it's a reasonable guess.

Wally World they are $22; Fleet Farm saw them for $20.

I am on a free roll because I used some of my Bass Pro Shop credit card points to buy mine. I paid $21.99 for the olive color model and bought a 4 pack of refills. Should be enough for my upcoming 2 week trip to Cass Lake. I will report back after Aug 3rd when I get back and let everybody know how they did.

I tell you what, if they worked on those darn biting flies I would wear the darn thing like a gangster necklace!!! I hate those biting flies.

That with my White Sox championship t shirt, I will be the envy of everybody on Cass Lake. SWEET!

I wonder if I can get an appointment with my dentist before the trip to get a set of "grills" on my teeth.

Smokin! Windy City Style baby.

Don't forget to put your pants under your cheeks and wear an upside down, backwards visor as well.

I just recently got married outside in Ely. When we went out to where we were getting married the mosquitos and sand flies were horrible. We bought 4 thermocells to place around during the ceremony. These things worked awesome, the bugs were pretty much not even there during the wedding. We did have one older lady pick one up and try to talk and listen into it like a walkie talkie though!

With the skeeters being so bad I had to buy one of these. Thanks for the tip and reports; this works great for me when shore fishing.

Well i purchase one of these a couple weeks ago and got to test it out over the 4th on the lake. We had no skeeters around the boat but for some reason as soon as we turned it on we got swarmed with may files. i had to shut the unit off and then they cleared away some. I didnt know if it was just a fluke but tried it the second night and same results??? attract some keep away others? I will keep this unit in the boat though for the skeeters.

Praise the dragon fly. Best skeeter invention yet.

Now if you could just buy them and put them on a short leash around camp and in the boat grin

They were in the Fleet Farm flyer yesterday for $16.99 this week. That's a good price for these things.

I have not needed a refill yet, but will give it a try. Just like refilling a lighter, or should be.

I gave it the biggest test ever todaycatching bullheads. I was fishing by a small creek in the woods with alot of tall weeds at the shore. I went there with cut offs and ashort sleeve t-shirt. No wind, 89 and hot. Bugs were everywhere and I turned on this thermo Cell and sat and fished for two hours and was never bit by a bug.

How does one beat that??

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
