Looking for some help in choosing a lake...

I am hoping to take my nephew out next weekend. It will be his first time ice fishing, and I'd like to take him to a lake where we will at the very least catch some panfish, and maybe be able to keep a few for a meal. He lives in Eden Prairie, and so I've looked at the DNR reports. Riley looks good, but it sounds like it can be quite busy on the weekends (not that any other lake I'd choose wouldn't be). Would this be a good first time lake for him?? He's 14, so I don't think I have to worry about him getting bored too quickly. I guess I just want to look like I know what the h*** I'm doing. My other lake thought is Lac La Von in Apple Valley. If anyone would like to chime in with their thoughts/opinions/ideas, I'd really appreciate the help...

If you wouldn't mind driving out a little further I think you could not go wrong on Waconia. It is easy to fish, just stay in the bay and I don't think you could fail to at least catch small panfish. That is the most important thing when taking a youngster for the first time, is having lots of action.
Plus you have the bonus of maybe having a chance to hook up to a nice northern if you set out a couple of tip-ups. And if you stay till after dark you could also catch crappies and walleyes.

I know how you feel. I took my 3yr old daughter out on saturday after noon for about 2hrs and we had a blast! She can't wait to do it again.
