I fish Harriet occasionally, but not often. How has the bite been, and what time does it usually come, is there a day bite or is it and evening or night bite? Thanks

I fish Harriet yesterday morning from 6am-9am. Sat in front of the rose garden in about 15 ft jigging and a tip up in about 19ft. Only pulled in a few perch. Caught several miniature eyes there last year, but that was the evening time.

good luck

The walleye bite on Harriet starts at sundown. Before that (during daylight)you must contend with the perch. I've been fishing Harriet and Calhoun for more than twenty years and have caught fish as late as midnight/one in the morning. Generally I consider the prime time to be over sometime between 7:30p and 8:00p. Another minor bite seems to take place around 11:00p. I've never had much good luck in the morning before sunrise. You can get a few but it's not like after sunset.

Does anyone know if you are allowed to use power augers on the city lakes, and do you need a city permit for a portable shelter?

Someone mentioned that to me about the gas auger on a metro lake that is closed to gas motors. As far as I know there is nothing to say a gas auger is not OK. If you turn it over and use as a hammer instead and then run the gas in the lake I can understand it but I do not think MN has gone that far...Yet. I do know that you are not supposed to take ATVs on the lakes in the metro as they are not allowed other times of the year off the ice. Seems kind of funny that you can take you truck there but not an atv. Please someone tell me I can as I have one(atv) but do not have the ice grippers. This bare ice is really tough at times to get across.

Thanks for the reply Dave. I haven't fished the city lakes in a while, but I am thinking about trying it again some time in the near future.

Where do u find eyes on Harriet? I have gone out a couple of times and found a point to the west of Knox Ave. There is a guy out there all the time in about 12' hooking perch after perch. I went out to about 22 and had a couple of hits, but I didn't get a chance to set the hook.. Any info on where to go, and/or what kind of jug minnow set up would be great. Thanks

You CAN NOT use an ATV on inner metro lakes..

You CAN use power augers.

You DO NOT need a special permit for portable ice fishing houses.

I fish Harriet all the time,as it is two blocks from my house. I tend to use a lot of different types of lures.Sweedish pimples and Northland forage minnows seem to work best. Started using using to glow devils this year but have only gotten perch. Last year I noticed that they would hit a lot more on a jig and fathead than anything else.Hope this helps any.

I think it all helps to create motion and confusion to keep their attention away from the blinds.  The hurricanes seemed pretty important though.  6 of them per spread and moved around dependent on wind direction.  Some tall silo socks mixed in with them too.  Kill hole in the middle with a few decoys clustered over the e call.  That was about 25 yards from the blinds.  7-8 batteries to run everything.  2000 decoys per spread.   I wasn’t the shot caller.  We were taking them at about 40 yards on average but I believe we could’ve gotten a lot of them feet down.  We all remember the single Ross’ that broke off from a group of snows hovering at 100+ yards and took the elevator all the way down to its demise.  The shot was called just before it lit but we were all sure if it was left alone, the audience above would’ve joined.  It was mesmerizing to watch to watch how much they work a spread without flapping their wings much.   These pics were waiting for them to come down closer.  They did.

Never hunted conservation season. Actually get birds feet down or longer shots? I've been running battery operated flappers but does the rotary machine really help?
