Thought everyone might get a kick out of this...

Was out on Excelsior Bay on Saturday. My partner and I worked our tails off all day trying to find the perfect spot to set up. Fished from 9:00am til 7:00pm. Around 2:00 we finally found our ideal spot (about 50 holes later and a lot of vexlar searching). The spot had a drop off from 5' to 25' in a matter of about 30 yds off a rock pile. No other houses around, off by ourselves. So we set up in about 18' of water. All set by 2:30 so we wouldn't disturb the evening bite. Found lots of small perch under us so we were excited about the coming evening bite.

Around 3:45 here comes two guys and they set up their house not 30' from our house. When i asked them why they were so close the response was "Well this is my spot, we were here yesterday... I put a big "N" on the ice here, didn't you see it?... Sorry" They proceeded to drill 2 holes. Then around 4:45 they drilled 4 more holes. Its enough to make one want to run out of the house and stab them in the eye with a spud bar.

I wasn't aware that you could own part of the ice by simply marking a symbol on top. If anyone knows these two idiots tell them thanks from me for ruining our evening bite...

..needless to say no walleye through the ice.

Typical Tonka for ya. Happened to me on Waconia as well. The dudes actually drove their wheeler between me and my tip up which was 30 feet away. I packed up and went over by my friends.

Only got a tiny walleye and missed 4 other tiny walleyes.

Was out on Tonka on Friday night and set up about 70 yards from someones permanent house. At 3:30 a couple of guys come walking up to me and ask me how deep it is, I tell them the best drop off is right where that house is. They set up about 11 feet from the house. At 4:00 the people who own the perm come out. It was pretty funny. The fish had already started biting and the people in the perm go and drill 10 holes at prime time. This year I have started walking out quite a bit farther.

It seems to me that you can only mark your spot with a permanent house right!
They will now be jinxed from catching anything but bullheads from this spot.

The spot your talking about seems to be very popular. Maybe when the ice is driveable it will ease the pressure with more people moving farther out.
