After seeing all of the new folks on FM and HSO, I was thinking how did you find out about Fishing Minnesota? You see people from all over the U.S. and just makes me wonder how you found out.

Me myself found out this site through my dad. He showed this to me and right away i became a member.

I was looking for a fishing report for the area where our cabin is at, and my brother told me to check this site out. It has been very helpful and a good way to spend time. Thanks to everyone

for me its kinda funny I was on another forum not related to FM

I posted a Question on trolling and someone answered me and gave a link on a trolling book, fishermans bible(their out of stock, my luck).Well ,the link was right to fishing minnesota looked it over fell all googley over it and never left.

p.s. out of respect to fishing Minnesota I did not or will not mention the name of other sight. HSO is superior.

If you can let me know how i can get my hands on this book please let me know .

The book I have is precision trolling the troller bible. I got mine at gander mtn for like $29. It shows you the lure and how many feet of line to let out so you know how deep you are. It also talks about weights and speeds. I have also seen them on ebay. Hope this helps.

The decal on the back of Jason Boser's pick up. Saw it at a landing on Winnie a couple of years back.

My buddy introduced me to the and I joined. But I didn't really start posting at all until a few weeks ago. I would say that Tyler Holm got me hooked because of all the things he has said about it! Thanks Dave and Tyler for getting me addicted!!

I remember it vividly. One night I was spending all kinds of time doing searches for fishing reports. I typed "Minnesota fishing reports Hutchinson" into Yahoo and walla....it brought me to FM. I couldn't believe the amount of information that was being shared and written. I lurked for 2 weeks and then joined.

I originally did a topic like this years ago titled "How did you find FM?" I've searched and searched for it this morning but have come up empty handed. Oh well... some things are fun to talk about again.

Here's my story I posted back then-

"Personally, I found FM back in 2001 when I was trying to find a little info on Upper Red Lake Crappie fishing. I eventually wandered on to Roger's Campground, Hudec's Resort, and the Waskish Minnow Station websites trying to find some info. I believe it was the Minnow Station who had a link to Fishing Minnesota and voila, here I am."

Like many others, I was searching for fishing reports. I found it through google typing in Mille Lacs Fishing Reports and I was soon hooked. I lurked around for about a year or two, can't really remember. After a while reading the posts, I figured I could add to quite a few of the topics and just started posting. Great place to hang out on the net, to help you put fish in the net.

There's a name from the past. Whatever happened to him, I havent seen any posts for a long while. Also MTNET, havent heard that name in a while either.

I found this site by typing in "Fishing" + "Minnesota" in YAHOO (before Google was as big as it is now) and this is the site that came up. Since there was a forum for Kabetogama I knew I was here to stay.

I was on another forum board and the topic was "What other forum's do you participate in?" Each response had three, four different outdoor forum links.

This forum was the best link.

I first found FM searching for anything about fishing in Minnesota in July of 2000. I joined a short time later uder a different user name than I have now. I was permenantly layed off some months later and lost my access to a computer. I rejoined in the summer of 2002 when I was able to afford a computer in my home. FANTASTIC SITE. THANKS RICK.

I was in the market for a boat last summer and came across the site. I ended up buying a boat from a fellow member. Ever since I found the site, I became hooked. The fishing reports, advice and knowledge of the members keeps me coming back. I also ended up buying a Vex this winter from an ad posted on the site. I have had awesome luck buying the boat and Vex from members on this site. The members are truly great sportsman.

I did a search for UTL a couple of years ago, we were headed up there for crappies at the time. It brought me to this site, but it still took me a long time to become a member.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
