Just want to remind everyone to be curteous to other fishermen during "prime times"...early morning & late afternoon, early evening. We had some guys blasting us with their Jiffy Pop auger from 4:00pm to 5:00pm yesterday...plus running around on their snowmobile, back and forth to their cabin or other fishing spot...or something. Then they come over and wonder why they're not catching anything. I felt like saying "maybe if you sat still and fished you dumb ****". That and missing a pig walleye at the hole has me a little upset today. Other than that...life is great now that ice fishing is here.

I hear ya. Unfortunately some people just don't understand that you can't make that much noise on top of the ice and expect to do any good.

Guys
Maybe just remind them politely it is now legal to carry a .44 mag under your jacket these days?
And if they do NOT get with it, and CHILL, it will work it's way ot of it's nice warm little sleeping place and make things a right for everyone.

Just Kidding really, but it could happen?
Ya never know who's Pack'en these days.
I know I am, but only to protect me and my crew...

Chill and smile.
Most times they go away or I do.
Sorry to hear about the Problem.

Now go back and nail that BIG'EN.

Ya...I know you're right Big Tom...and that's why me and my crew just kind of bit our tongues. I just wanted to give a little post about it so it maybe made guys think...or perhaps people new to ice fishing don't understand to be quiet...and I know they check this forum out a lot. Happy Holidays to everyone and I hope you all make it out fishing in between the festivities!

Chisago. It's been decent fishing there so far.

Right on guys!!!
And for those of you that think you need to drill 1,000 holes to test your new auger, you look like fools.
Do that on a pond with no fish please!

Was this on a public lake, or a private lake?
I hear you loud and clear. It can be frustrating when people pile up on you, but keep in mind people have different schedules. I get out whenever I can and sometimes I cannot get to the lake by 3:00. Everyone on here would be lying if they said they never punched holes during prime times.

I understand about different schedules, flat tires, my kid had an earache, etc. etc. I can put up with some of that...but these dudes were there before I got there...and then all of of sudden during primetime started going hog wild on the ice.

I can put up with a guy coming out and punch a few holes and setting up shop...but I don't like when guys decide to search structure or try to find a school during primetime right near everyone else. They should do their homework before gametime.

I can understand the frustration, but your talking about ice fishing in Minnesota. There is always someone running around on atv's or sleds, there is always someone drilling holes and unless you fish a private lake, you should be used to it by now.

I can't remember a time when it was quiet during prime time on a metro lake. I think the only thing we can do is find a spot away from all other houses and fish during the weekdays. Whatever you do, stay away from Ceniako lake, it will put you in a mental institution if this stuff bothers you.

Remember, most of the people fishing are just out to have fun and they're not die hards like the rest of us are.

Good fishing and happy holidays to everyone.

I fish in a permanent house and the other night a guy was fishing pretty close to it, but i figure the house should have atleast alittle area that is ok to drill holes around. I drilled a few holes around the shack but just tried to stay on the side away from the guy fishing. What do other people do with the close fisherman to their permanent shack?

I to understand and feel the frustration.
Was out last night for the crappie bite and had snowmobilers ridin' by like lighting in the sky. AND they were NO MORE THAN 30FT away from my house. I could feel the house shake everytime they went by!

THROW ME A BONE....but isn't there a whole lake that this MAD RIDING CAN BE DONE other than RIGHT next to my portable?

HELLO....does word ever get out to these people?

I also feel your pain.
I was out on West Rush, one of my all time favorites last Sunday and the roar of snowmobile and atv engines was continuous. I decided to shift strategy (I have the whole week off) and moved to a small relatively unknown Wright county lake and have had excellent results. Consecutive limits of bluegill and crappie, and landed a bonus 30 inch very fat pike on a crappie minnow, ultralight panfish ice rod & reel last night, what fun! When I took my portable down last night there were only three other portables on the ice, and it didn't sound like a nascar event!
I would rather move than fight the crowds, and I usually have better luck on the smaller, less pounded lakes. They are out there, and well worth the effort to find.
I figure I can't change the habits of others so I need to alter my approach.

well as long as everyone else is venting...

what are the laws on how far an atv or snowmobile can be to a ice house or people, or is it just a curtisy thing? i agree i was on buffalo last sunday at noon went to where i always go which was a little away from the crowd but about 30 yards from another guy and i felt bad. with in the next 3 hours i have 5 other groups within 35 yard of me. then i started to have cars drive right between me and one of the people next to me, scary when you see the ice below you crack.

i don't think people learn because 10 trucks fell throught buffalo the day before. i thought it was funny when a guy next to me yelled at at 2 retards who parked close to us, so they drove a little closer to shore, like thats going to matter when the whole lake is 8". being 10 yards closer to shore doesn't decrease your odds of your car going through. i only got 1 crappie.

Fishing in the metro is nuts and very noisy.

I think we should remember that and deal with it.
Most guys usually work till just before dark and that means they are getting out there at prime time.
If they can't get there to get set up before prime time should they just not ever fish?
Sometimes a guy just can't win.Do you punch a few holes and make someone mad,do you fish out of a hole that isn't being used at that moment and make the guy who punched the hole mad?

The best a guy can do is just go about his buisness and hope that your not going to make someone upset.
If your late, go fishing, but be as respectfull to them as possible but don't feel that you do not have the right to be out there too.

And remember if your on a community fishing spot anything and everything will happen.
