i will be in the cities for awhile and was wondering if the crappies are still decent size in the lake. I use to fish there all the time and catch some monsters there. Got a 3lb.8oz. slab outta there in 97 that adorns my wall. Plus numerous other bigguns that we put back.

Was thinking of giving it a try. Use to catch them big ones away from the crowd off a small point just outside the deep hole. I think there was a red or pink cabin on the point if I remeber right?? They bit right at dark, on green glow demons and minnows and waxies.

Hav'nt caught a slabber out of there in years. There might be a couple left though.

I haven't fished it since last spring and we caught some nice fish. A few pounders, but nothing close to 3 lbs. Unless you have 4 wheel drive it can be difficult to get out to that point from the public access. The last time I ice fished there I did catch my limit of 9+ inch crappies, but that was a few years ago.

Yea, Blue Ribbon and Brothers bait stores used to talk the lake up in the Outdoor News for a few years I saw. Like I say I have not been there since 97 or 98. I remeber it was a serious treck over that ice heave at the access one year and the big slush hole in the middle of the lake.

Oh well good things must come to an end. Thanks guys. Still might try it though..

Hey P-Trapper, I think we had a little thread about this lake going last year about this time. I am very familiar with the spot you mentioned and believe I might have met you out there once back in the days when there were only 2 ice houses on the lake. One particular bait store has been giving this lake a lot of press within the last couple of years and with that came the crowds. Last year was my worst out there ever. The numbers and quality of fish have really suffered unfortunately.

I think it all helps to create motion and confusion to keep their attention away from the blinds.  The hurricanes seemed pretty important though.  6 of them per spread and moved around dependent on wind direction.  Some tall silo socks mixed in with them too.  Kill hole in the middle with a few decoys clustered over the e call.  That was about 25 yards from the blinds.  7-8 batteries to run everything.  2000 decoys per spread.   I wasn’t the shot caller.  We were taking them at about 40 yards on average but I believe we could’ve gotten a lot of them feet down.  We all remember the single Ross’ that broke off from a group of snows hovering at 100+ yards and took the elevator all the way down to its demise.  The shot was called just before it lit but we were all sure if it was left alone, the audience above would’ve joined.  It was mesmerizing to watch to watch how much they work a spread without flapping their wings much.   These pics were waiting for them to come down closer.  They did.

Never hunted conservation season. Actually get birds feet down or longer shots? I've been running battery operated flappers but does the rotary machine really help?
